The Paraklesis Service to the Most Holy Theotokos is a service of supplication addressed by Orthodox Christians to the Virgin Mary in times of great personal or public need. The distinguishing feature of the Paraklesis is the inclusion of the supplicatory canon of sacred hymnography attributed to Theosterictus the Monk. Here, American Orthodox composer Robert Sirico has written new contemporary musical setting for SATB Acapella Chorus based on the traditional Znamenny style for the entire church service. This book is a standalone volume for Priest and Choir with no need for supplementary books and sheet music. The composition also accommodates choirs of any size. It can be sung in its full grandeur with four, to seven-part, traditional Russian style choir, or could be song with just a handful of singers distributing parts to Melody and accompaniment. No matter which arrangement is chosen, the music will deliver an edifying experience harkening to the mellifluous flow of Znamenny chant, albeit new music in an old style.
