This is why the first commandment in Exodus 20, in order to love God with all your heart, soul and mind, is to have no other gods before him, and to take God as your God, in the way God has revealed himself. God has deposited his truth, his will, his word, into the hands of the church (into the very heart of the church). It has been delivered to them. “…that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints,” (Jude 1:3). Maynard’s exposition of the “truth” comes from Proverbs 23:23, “Buy the truth and sell it not.” He gives two propositions that serve as his doctrines: 1.) All other temporal mercies find their eternal significance in him. Nothing will delight the sincere believer, or be enjoyed, if such believers do not in some way partake of His comfort, and His tenderness. They must tap into Christ’s virtue. How will they do this? Durant’s discourse explores the sweetness of Christ's relationship with weak believers, addressing various aspects of this theme. He shows the fallacy of Satan to keep souls from Christ; and the sweetness of Christ to those in His service. His work is taken from Isaiah 40:11, “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.” The structure of the discourse includes the dependence of the words, their division, and the doctrines derived from them. Christ is clearly portrayed in Scripture as the incarnate God-man who came down from heaven to save his people from the apostasy of Adam in the garden. He is the second Adam, the Branch and High Priest of the everlasting covenant (planned before time began), who came to redeem and save wicked sinners through his merit of living a perfect life to uphold God’s Law, and willingly died on a cross to became a curse through death in order to appease God’s wrath for his one and only bride. To use biblical terms, he expiated sin and propitiated the wrath of God, justifying his people, sanctifying them through his heavenly intercession by sending his Spirit to work in them, and will one day glorify them making them perfect to rule and reign with him forever. Though the phrase “Son of Man” is seen in various Old Testament books and used for a variety of purposes, Christ’s use is specific in its reference to Daniel and his own description. Book Description
Christ is clearly portrayed in Scripture as the incarnate God-man who came down from heaven to save his people from the apostasy of Adam in the garden. He is the second Adam, the Branch and High Priest of the everlasting covenant (planned before time began), who came to redeem and save wicked sinners through his merit of living a perfect life to uphold God’s Law, and willingly died on a cross to became a curse through death in order to appease God’s wrath for his one and only bride. To use biblical terms, he expiated sin and propitiated the wrath of God, justifying his people, sanctifying them through his heavenly intercession by sending his Spirit to work in them, and will one day glorify them making them perfect to rule and reign with him forever. It is one thing to understand the various historical narratives concerning these truths in the Gospels, but it is another thing altogether to consider how Jesus saw himself in the Gospels. This work investigates Christ’s interpretation of the phrase “Son of Man” as found in the book of Daniel, (7:13) and applied to himself throughout the Gospels. Though the phrase “Son of Man” is seen in various Old Testament books and used for a variety of purposes, Christ’s use is specific in its reference to Daniel and his own description. In this way a question becomes important as it relates to Christ’s self-disclosure, “Do you see Christ as Christ saw himself? Do you see Christ clearly?”

Despite the fact that William Blake summarises the plot of Visions of the Daughters of Albion (1793) in just eight lines in the prefatory ‘Argument,’ there are several contentious moments in the poem which continue to cause debate. Critics read Oothoon’s call to Theotormon’s eagles and her offer to catch girls of silver and gold as either evidence of her rape-damaged psyche or confirmation of her selfless love which transcends her socio-sexual state. How do we reconcile the attack of Theotormon’s eagles and the wanton play of the girls with Oothoon’s articulate and highly sophisticated expressions of spiritual truth and free love? In William Blake’s Divine Love: Visions of Oothoon, Joshua Schouten de Jel explores the hermeneutical possibilities of Oothoon’s self-annihilation and the epistemological potential of her visual copulation by establishing an artistic and hagiographical heritage which informs the pictorial representation and poetic pronunciation of Oothoon’s enlightened entelechy. Working with Michelangelo’s The Punishment of Tityus (1532) and Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s Ecstasy of Saint Teresa (1647–51), Oothoon’s ecstatic figuration reflects two iconographic traditions which, framed by the linguistic tropes of divine love expressed within a female-centred mystagogy, reveal the soteriological significance of Oothoon’s willing self-sacrifice.
