Book Description
From the Preface by H. Halberstam: “The unexpected arrival of Loo-Keng Hua in Europe in the fall of 1978 was for many of us a romantic event, a legend come to life. What had long been (and had seemed destined to remain) merely a revered name in the mathematical annals of our times assumed suddenly the handsome presence of the man himself, dignified yet jovial, youthful yet wise, serene yet ever questing for new achievements; and we realized how very much we had missed by his thirty years’ absence from the international scene. While the publication of theses “Selecta” from his writings needs no justification beyond what is in them, it will, I hope, serve also as a way of saying a most cordial “welcome back”. It has been an honor for me to play a small role in producing the Selecta. To select only parts from the imposing whole is automatically to be wrong, and it may well seem in the long run (to quote loosely from a poem of Hua himself) that I have repaid gifts in jade with artifacts of wood. ...”

Book Description
There has been tremendous growth in the development of advanced marine vehicles over the last few decades and many of these developments have been presented at the International High Performance Marine Vehicles Conference held annually since 1997 in Shanghai, China. This comprehensive first volume covers high speed monohulls, multihulls, hydrofoil craft, air cavity craft and wing-in-ground effect craft. The papers cover a wide variety of hullforms, including deep-V hulls, stepped hulls, axe-bow hullforms, trimarans and pentamarans, foil assisted catamarans and air-lubrication craft. All aspects of design, including resistance, powering, seakeeping and maneuvering performance of these vessels, are covered through theoretical, experimental and numerical investigations.

Book Description
This book deals with boundary value problems for analytic functions with applications to singular integral equations. New and simpler proofs of certain classical results such as the Plemelj formula, the Privalov theorem and the Poincaré-Bertrand formula are given. Nearly one third of this book contains the author's original works, most of which have not been published in English before and, hence, were previously unknown to most readers in the world. It consists of 7 chapters together with an appendix: Chapter I describes the basic knowledge on Cauchy-type integrals and Cauchy principal value integrals; Chapters II and III study, respectively, fundamental boundary value problems and their applications to singular integral equations for closed contours; Chapters IV and V discuss the same problems for curves with nodes (including open arcs); Chaper VI deals with similar problems for systems of functions; Chapter VII is concerned with some miscellaneous problems and the Appendix contains some basic results on Fredholm integral equations. In most sections, there are carefully selected sets of exercises, some of which supplement the text of the sections; answers/hints are also given for some of these exercises. For graduate students or seniors, all the 7 chapters can be used for a full year course, while the first 3 chapters may be used for a one-semester course.

Book Description
Over the six-month period from late 2012 to early 2013, Hu Jintao, the President of the People's Republic of China, Chair of the Central Military Commission, and Party Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), will relinquish at least two of his three positions. According to the constitution of the CCP, his time as Party head will come to an end, given that he has already served for two terms. Well over the supposed retirement age of 68, he will have to hand over the leadership of China to a new generation of leaders at the 18th Party Congress in Beijing. In Chinese politics, the act of retirement is surprisingly difficult, but Hu Jintao is widely known for his reserve and reticence; there is little doubt that he could disappear into a quiet and anonymous retirement if he so desires. This timely volume thus aims to provide an analytical assessment of Hu's period in charge of the world's most populous country. It concentrates briefly on his early life and entry into politics, then considers and evaluates his stewardship of the economy and of international affairs, as well as his ideological contribution and leadership of the communist party. In the process, the reader will also be afforded a broad overview of China's rapid developments over the last decade, since 2002.
