Book Description
I have an outstanding God; I have a superb Lord; I have an all sufficient King who supplies my every need according to His riches and glory. He is the force that drives me; the power that moves me; the inspiration that motivates me; the strength that upholds me. His name is Jesus Christ; He is God manifested in the flesh. My name is Jim Griffith, and I am an apostolic Christian; born again; sanctified; water baptized; and Holy Ghost filled. Time would not suffice for me to describe my feelings of every Church, but I must say that I love this type: an Apostolic, United, Overcoming, Pentecostal, Holy Church. Currently I am employed by the U.S. military; the service I will not specify, but I will discuss the spiritual government of which I am enrolled. I am enrolled in the Army of the LORD; the Christian-hood of God. As we press forward into the pages of this book, I pray that your heart will be impressed by the Holy Spirit of God; that your soul will be uplifted into the heavens; that your spirit will be ushered into the living presence of God. Jesus Christ is our only hope, only life, and only salvation; may we understand His character, quality, and identity in order to become partakers of His Eternal Spirit & Eternal life. This book is formulated alphabetically in order to institute a new spiritual alphabet founded on diverse titles of Jesus Christ. There is so much we have not discovered about the Lord Jesus Christ, and it is my attempt to present Him to you in a new light and new way. Let's go forth & overcome! Let God Arise! Let His enemies be scattered! This is who I am and what I desire!

Shepherds
Author: Daniel C. Fredericks
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1532606044
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 293
Book Description
How does God manage his entire creation? Has he had a plan, a theme, a metanarrative or something else which he follows that gives a unity to all of his efforts? Shepherds describes the relationship between the Creator and his creation, a relationship that is structurally integrated by the very core of who God is. There is a design within creation that radiates from his personal, unique being. What God created and how he manages it is a marvelous extension of who he is and how he acts. This relationship between God and his creation is not patterned only on his essence or being, but on his powerful and loving will and acts. Rather than a literary grid to which "theme" and "metanarrative" attempt to subject God's relationship with humanity, Shepherds recognizes that all of creation bears the eternal design emanating from God's very nature. Scripture is not a "story" about Israel or the church; it is not simply a story of redemption; it is a window into the eternal design by which God created reality and will eternally sustain that creation.

Gospel Coach
Author: Scott Thomas
Publisher: Zondervan
ISBN: 0310494346
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
In order to help pastors and other Christian leaders to lovingly lead God’s flock to Jesus Christ and into God’s mission, Scott Thomas and Tom Wood clarify a process of coaching and shepherding that is rooted in the patterns of the Good Shepherd himself, a process in which leaders stir up the gifts, passion, and calling upon others’ lives. This book addresses the needs of the leader, his or her sinful tendencies, and church leadership issues. It directs the leader to the person and work of Jesus. It provides a system to intentionally shepherd leaders to glorify God in their personal, spiritual, and missional lives. Many ministry leaders serving in churches find themselves overwhelmed, disillusioned, and depressed by the enormous and challenging task of leading and ministering in a congregation. As a result, the ministry suffers, the leaders suffer, and the result is often an unhealthy church existent with little or no Gospel influence. These leaders need someone to shepherd their soul so that they can lead others to the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We suggest that coaching for the church leader looks less like corporate consulting or humanistic psychology and more like biblical-shepherding. We suggest that every church leader needs a Gospel Coach to come alongside with words of truth, wisdom and experience to encourage, admonish, comfort and help—words drawn from Scripture and godly wisdom, grounded in the gracious saving work of Jesus Christ, and presented in the context of a trusting relationship. Gospel Coaching is an intentional relationship to skillfully care for others with four ancient shepherding principles: 1) Know the sheep, 2) Feed the sheep, 3) Lead the sheep, and 4) Protect the sheep. A Gospel Coach both inquires about the personal, spiritual, and missional aspects of a ministry leader’s life in a loving yet focused manner, and also probes the church leader for compulsive unbelief or selfish motivation, or disobedience and sin, and leads the ministry leader back to the Gospel, through belief, repentance and obedience. Churches that desire to be rich in a Gospel application toward their city, their relationships with one another, their communication and worship, as well as their service, will benefit to a greater degree by having their leaders being coached by a Gospel-centered leader.

Saving Paradise
Author: Rebecca Ann Parker
Publisher: Beacon Press
ISBN: 0807097632
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 709
Book Description
A fascinating theological study of how early Christianity’s message of love and community has evolved into one of punishment and empire During their first millennium, Christians filled their sanctuaries with images of Christ as a living presence—as a shepherd, teacher, healer, or an enthroned god. He is serene and surrounded by lush scenes, depictions of this world as paradise. Yet once he appeared as crucified, dying was virtually all Jesus seemed able to do, and paradise disappeared from the earth. Saving Paradise turns a fascinating new lens on Christianity, from its first centuries to the present day, asking how its early vision of beauty evolved into a vision of torture, and what changes in society and theology marked that evolution. It also retrieves, for today, a life-affirming Christianity that the world sorely needs.

Although Africans, including the enslaved had long resisted its operation, abolition has traditionally been presented as a benevolent act by the British state acting under pressure from the intellectual classes and humanitarian activists. But the campaign to end the TTA cannot be separated from the resistance struggle of the Africans themselves. In Saving Souls: The Struggle to end the Transatlantic Trade in Africans, the companion volume to Trading Souls, noted Caribbean historians Hilary Beckles and Verene Shepherd trace the African experience from capture, the horrors of the Middle Passage to liberation.
