Book Description
WWI, LOSSES, WASTE, STUPIDITY, POLITICS, WAR, MADNESS. On July 28, 1914, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. This set the Triple Alliance (Austria-Hungary, Germany, and Italy) against Serbia's allies in the Triple Entente (Russia, France, and Britain).Eventually, the momentum became unstoppable, sparking one of the dumbest and bloodiest conflicts in history. Incidentally, WWI also set the stage for WWII 22 years later as well as making possible 70 years of brutal communism. This book is about this terrible conflict and also we tell the story of a very special British boy murdered in this deadly, avoidable and utterly senseless war- a war not of his making and indeed not of his or anyone's understanding. We discuss Sam Mason, a 19 year old, murdered a day before his 20th birthday at the battle of Somme. Sam was a mathematical Genius, a child prodigy, gifted far beyond his contemporaries. The British Government never should have allowed his enlistment. Sam was a national treasure. His potential for bettering the lives of all was enormous but tragically, we will never know.

Book Description
Late summer 1941. Louisianas piney woods are engulfed by a tidal wave of soldiers engaged in the largest army maneuvers ever undertaken on American soil. For many of these young men, as well as the isolated Southern communities, life will never be the same. Although no one knows it, our nation will be at war in three months. Elizabeth Reed is a young Louisiana schoolteacher who dislikes soldiers. Harry Miller is a Wisconsin soldier who hates Louisiana. It only makes sense that they should meet and fall in love. Their story begins with a bulletan empty cartridge tossed from a truckload of soldiers. The note inside it will change the destinies of these two young people. In the midst of large-scale battles between the red and blue armies, Harry and Elizabeth are each fighting their own war with dark secrets from their pasts. They have nothing in common except mutual desires to escape these pasts. In spite of clashing at every turn, they run right into each others arms as they jointly learn that the hardest person to forgive is yourself. Within this clash of cultures lies the core message of A Spent Bullet. Rural Louisiana is never the same, and neither are the soldiers who learn about Louisiana mud, mosquitoes, and misery mixed with memorable Southern hospitality. More than a love story, A Spent Bullet recreates a memorable but largely forgotten time in Louisiana and our nations history. Told in the warm and touching style loved by readers of his previous eight books, Curt Iles weaves a story of love, history, and redemption.

Book Description
Pioneering the Minnesota Wilderness, smallpox killed his wife and child. Haunted by the tragedy, Sam Morgan lives a violent and lonely life. After ten weary, aimless years of drifting he sought peace in Kansas, to live his final years. He found Andrea, young and passionate. He found a new beginning, a challenge to tame the wild prairie. Sam fights rustlers and survives blizzard and drought. A new friend, Ben Duran, partners with Sam and sells Rampant River, horses and cattle. The ranch thrives from Sam's labor and Ben's shrewd business deals. Andrea gives birth to a son. Mathew. A Negro slave and his woman seek refuge; Sam takes them in. The old rogue is enamored by Crystal Rouge, a saloon hussy. And, he seduces Sarah Johnson, a debutant form the East. It was Sam Morgan's nature to take what he wanted. The fact that Andrew Tilman, an ambitious suitor, loved Sarah made no difference to Sam. The slave issue is hotly debated by Kansans. When words failed, guns blazed. The land became a bleeding, restless battleground of singular skirmishes between Abolitionist and Pro Slaver. Disasters like Lawrence and Pottawatomie Creeks added fuel to the flames of war. Small fired kindled and rekindles, flared brighter and brighter. Armies march to battle. Sam Morgan fought a private war, guarding Rampant River ranch. Astride a black stallion, a Henry rifle crooked in his arm, he was a grim man ready to kill. The white crosses on the hill near the ranch house testified to Sam Morgan's contribution to the war and his loss. Sam Morgan is shot by Lily, a saloon girl, when he discovers her in bed with his stepson, Daniel. Daniel leaves Rampant River and joins renegades lead by the religious zealot Zachary Eaton. Sam's stepdaughter, Heather, falls in love with Lieutenant Courtney. The lieutenant dies in Captain Quintrill's raid on Lawrence. Heather runs off to New York and begins the life of courtesan. Trouble follows Sam after the war ends. Sam Morgan is beset by treachery, betrayal, and murder. Andrew Tilman, made wealthy by his railroad business during the war, seeks to destroy Sam financially. When his plan fails, he pays for Sam's murder. In the alley behind a Fort Pike saloon, the knife of a savage half-breed stabs Sam Morgan. Only revenge will allow Sam Morgan to rest in Peace.

Book Description
Two tales of action, adventure, and the Wild West from a founding master of the genre, Lauran Paine. In “The Crescent Scar,” one man trying his best to stay on the straight and narrow is Sadler Carrel. Once upon a time he was a notorious outlaw known as the Gila River Kid, but he left his violent past behind to work a cattle ranch, always careful to keep the crescent-shaped scar, the only known identifying mark from his former life, carefully covered. But when the railroad comes to town, putting up fences that keep his cattle from the water and grazing land, the only one that can protect everything that Sadler Carrel built is the Gila River Kid. In “The Man without a Gun,” Jack Swift didn’t choose not to carry a gun; it chose him. After he served his sentence for horse thieving, he was told it’s illegal for a former convict to wear a gun. So he went unarmed into the Arizona territory, where he found a small cattle town, settled down, and became a respected local businessman. But when Jack’s young, lame friend steals a horse to run from a cruel uncle, Jack goes after him unarmed, because he knows full well that the uncle does carry a gun and won’t hesitate to use it.

Book Description
"The Crow and His Boy is the first in a series of books about a crow named Blackie. The story begins when Blackie is pushed from the crow's nest by his older brother. During his fall, Blackie sees a boy named Leo, who comes to his aid, as the bird lies injured at the foot of a tall pine. Leo and Blackie instantly bond, sharing the gift of telepathy, which enables them to communicate effortlessly without spoken words. Blackie eventually learns to fly with Leo's assistance. Blackie migrates to Florida with all the other crows each winter, though he and Leo share their adventures telepathically. In the third year of his migration, Blackie returns with a mate. Leo also grows up, goes to Dartmouth College and falls in love. Blackie shares with Leo the stories he hears of crow killings in a small college town named Faithful, New Hampshire. The president of Right College hates crows and attempts to eradicate them. Besides killing crows, the president is also secretly training a militia for bigger kills. Leo and Blackie travel to Hofstadter's Militia Training Center, in Freedom, N. H., where they meet other telepaths. Blackie's wise leadership creates a telephathic force ready to take on the militia. This supernatural novel shows how man and other species can work together and share an enduring bond." --Back cover.

Book Description
"Most Vietnam veterans do not like to talk about their experiences while in that war zone... But Samuel Richardson tells all in this book. Here, Sam doesn't merely depend on his memory of his stories; he uses text straight out of the meticulous journal he kept while in Vietnam... Before going to Vietnam, his father gave him a "father's blessing." This, in the LDS Church, is a typical ceremony aimed at comforting the recipient, and asking God for a variety of blessings for the person receiving the blessing... The narration inside will show how the father's blessing helped Sam to be calm during mortar attacks, and how to resist the many temptations that come to soldiers who find themselves in a war zone."--Back cover.
