A continuación se presentan los sistemas de diagnóstico o clasificación más utilizados para las personas con Discapacidad Intelectual (DI) elaborados por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), la Asociación Americana de Psiquiatría (AAMR) y la Asociación Americana de Discapacidades Intelectuales y del Desarrollo (AAIDD). De las clasificaciones se extraen tres enfoques diferentes de DI, aunque es necesario señalar que la tendencia es ir uniendo criterios. Se introduce una explicación del concepto de enfermedad mental en personas con Discapacidad Intelectual, que nos muestra los problemas sobre todo de diagnóstico. El propósito de este trabajo es analizar la relación existente entre el Trastorno Obsesivo-Compulsivo (TOC) y la Discapacidad Intelectual (DI), considerando la existencia de un posible diagnóstico de Trastorno Obsesivo-Compulsivo en una muestra de pacientes con una Discapacidad Intelectual de base. Se revisa la literatura disponible en el ámbito de la evaluación psiquiátrica y psicopatológica en personas con DI, así como explorar nuevas vías de evaluación e intervención que se podrían aplicar a esta población. Para ello, se procede a comparar los resultados obtenidos en dos pruebas de evaluación utilizadas en el diagnóstico de TOC en población general, el MINI y el CUDIATOC, valorando si estas pruebas son apropiadas para evaluar a personas con DI, o si por el contrario sería recomendable adaptar estas pruebas o construir una nueva en el futuro con este fin.
