Oswald Walters Brierly (1817-1894) was the son of Dr. Thomas Brierly. In 1841, he joined as staff artist aboard the Wanderer to make notes and sketches on an around-the-world tour. The ship remained at New South Wales, Australia for nine years. In 1851, Oswald returned to England and married Sarah Fry (d. 1870). In 1872, he married Louise Marie Huard. He was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1885.
