The Geometry of Schemes
Author: David Eisenbud
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387226397
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 265
Book Description
Grothendieck’s beautiful theory of schemes permeates modern algebraic geometry and underlies its applications to number theory, physics, and applied mathematics. This simple account of that theory emphasizes and explains the universal geometric concepts behind the definitions. In the book, concepts are illustrated with fundamental examples, and explicit calculations show how the constructions of scheme theory are carried out in practice.

Algebraic Geometry II: Cohomology of Schemes
Author: Ulrich Görtz
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3658430311
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 877
Book Description
This book completes the comprehensive introduction to modern algebraic geometry which was started with the introductory volume Algebraic Geometry I: Schemes. It begins by discussing in detail the notions of smooth, unramified and étale morphisms including the étale fundamental group. The main part is dedicated to the cohomology of quasi-coherent sheaves. The treatment is based on the formalism of derived categories which allows an efficient and conceptual treatment of the theory, which is of crucial importance in all areas of algebraic geometry. After the foundations are set up, several more advanced topics are studied, such as numerical intersection theory, an abstract version of the Theorem of Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch, the Theorem on Formal Functions, Grothendieck's algebraization results and a very general version of Grothendieck duality. The book concludes with chapters on curves and on abelian schemes, which serve to develop the basics of the theory of these two important classes of schemes on an advanced level, and at the same time to illustrate the power of the techniques introduced previously. The text contains many exercises that allow the reader to check their comprehension of the text, present further examples or give an outlook on further results.

Drinfeld Modules, Modular Schemes And Applications
Author: M Van Der Put
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814546402
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 378
Book Description
In his 1974 seminal paper 'Elliptic modules', V G Drinfeld introduced objects into the arithmetic geometry of global function fields which are nowadays known as 'Drinfeld Modules'. They have many beautiful analogies with elliptic curves and abelian varieties. They study of their moduli spaces leads amongst others to explicit class field theory, Jacquet-Langlands theory, and a proof of the Shimura-Taniyama-Weil conjecture for global function fields. This book constitutes a carefully written instructional course of 12 lectures on these subjects, including many recent novel insights and examples. The instructional part is complemented by research papers centering around class field theory, modular forms and Heegner points in the theory of global function fields. The book will be indispensable for everyone who wants a clear view of Drinfeld's original work, and wants to be informed about the present state of research in the theory of arithmetic geometry over function fields.

Studies in Duality on Noetherian Formal Schemes and Non-Noetherian Ordinary Schemes
Author: Leovigildo Alonso Tarrío
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 0821819429
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 138
Book Description
This volume contains three papers on the foundations of Grothendieck duality on Noetherian formal schemes and on not-necessarily-Noetherian ordinary schemes. The first paper presents a self-contained treatment for formal schemes which synthesizes several duality-related topics, such as local duality, formal duality, residue theorems, dualizing complexes, etc. Included is an exposition of properties of torsion sheaves and of limits of coherent sheaves. A second paper extends Greenlees-May duality to complexes on formal schemes. This theorem has important applications to Grothendieck duality. The third paper outlines methods for eliminating the Noetherian hypotheses. A basic role is played by Kiehl's theorem affirming conservation of pseudo-coherence of complexes under proper pseudo-coherent maps. This work gives a detailed introduction to the subject of Grothendieck Duality. The approach is unique in its presentation of a complex series of special cases that build up to the main results.

Semi-Infinite Algebraic Geometry of Quasi-Coherent Sheaves on Ind-Schemes
Author: Leonid Positselski
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031379055
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 225
Book Description
Semi-Infinite Geometry is a theory of "doubly infinite-dimensional" geometric or topological objects. In this book the author explains what should be meant by an algebraic variety of semi-infinite nature. Then he applies the framework of semiderived categories, suggested in his previous monograph titled Homological Algebra of Semimodules and Semicontramodules, (Birkhäuser, 2010), to the study of semi-infinite algebraic varieties. Quasi-coherent torsion sheaves and flat pro-quasi-coherent pro-sheaves on ind-schemes are discussed at length in this book, making it suitable for use as an introduction to the theory of quasi-coherent sheaves on ind-schemes. The main output of the homological theory developed in this monograph is the functor of semitensor product on the semiderived category of quasi-coherent torsion sheaves, endowing the semiderived category with the structure of a tensor triangulated category. The author offers two equivalent constructions of the semitensor product, as well as its particular case, the cotensor product, and shows that they enjoy good invariance properties. Several geometric examples are discussed in detail in the book, including the cotangent bundle to an infinite-dimensional projective space, the universal fibration of quadratic cones, and the important popular example of the loop group of an affine algebraic group.

The P-Adic Simpson Correspondence and Hodge-Tate Local Systems
Author: Ahmed Abbes
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031559142
Category : Hodge theory
Languages : en
Pages : 450
Book Description
This book delves into the p-adic Simpson correspondence, its construction, and development. Offering fresh and innovative perspectives on this important topic in algebraic geometry, the text serves a dual purpose: it describes an important tool in p-adic Hodge theory, which has recently attracted significant interest, and also provides a comprehensive resource for researchers. Unique among the books in the existing literature in this field, it combines theoretical advances, novel constructions, and connections to Hodge-Tate local systems. This exposition builds upon the foundation laid by Faltings, the collaborative efforts of the two authors with T. Tsuji, and contributions from other researchers. Faltings initiated in 2005 a p-adic analogue of the (complex) Simpson correspondence, whose construction has been taken up in several different ways. Following the approach they initiated with T. Tsuji, the authors develop new features of the p-adic Simpson correspondence, inspired by their construction of the relative Hodge-Tate spectral sequence. First, they address the connection to Hodge-Tate local systems. Then they establish the functoriality of the p-adic Simpson correspondence by proper direct image. Along the way, they expand the scope of their original construction. The book targets a specialist audience interested in the intricate world of p-adic Hodge theory and its applications, algebraic geometry and related areas. Graduate students can use it as a reference or for in-depth study. Mathematicians exploring connections between complex and p-adic geometry will also find it valuable. .
