Book Description
This research has its ethnographic base in two adjacent villagers in the north-western part of Bangladesh. The villages Dhononjoypara and Gopalhati are examined in order to understand the changing leadership pattern in rural Bangladesh. The traditional leaders in a non-governmental organization is contrasted to the emerging leaders in newly-instituted government agencies. The study reveals a change in the institutions through which leaders can exert power due to government funded programmes and projects, but shows that the basic structure of the leadership remains unchanged. The educated descendants of the traditional leaders are the leaders in the new arena. The crucial importance of young sections of traditionally powerful families and the mechanisms that they have used for institutional change of power is highlighted in the book.

Book Description
Over the past decade India has witnessed a number of land wars that have centred crucially on the often forcible transfer of land from small farmers or indigenous groups to private companies. Among these, the land war that erupted in Singur, West Bengal, in 2006, went on to make national headlines and become paradigmatic of many of the challenges and social conflicts that arise when a state-led policy of swiftly transferring land to private sector companies encounters resistance on the ground. Land Dispossession and Everyday Politics in Rural Eastern India analyses the movement by Singur’s so-called unwilling farmers to retain and reclaim their farmland. By foregrounding the everyday politics of popular mobilization, the book sheds new light on the movement’s internal politics as well as on contentious issues rooted in everyday caste, class and gender relations.

Book Description
The book tries to portray sericulture, as a crop enterprise, and which is emerged as one of the foremost view in the theoretical and methodological understanding in the disciplines of Sociology and Social Anthropology in India. Thus, anthropological analysis of sericulture and its emergence in the development literature gives us an idea of the activity leads to further theoretical and critical studies. Anthropological understanding of the sericulture and its development, thus, is explained thoroughly as studied by the scholars of the different disciplines in across the states of India. Sericulture is best suited to a country like India where manpower and land resources are in surplus. It generates direct and indirect employment in various ways. More and more farmers in India have taken up sericulture activity and which was once confined to only five States, has spread to almost all the States of India. Sericulture also creates gainful employment to women and aged people at homes with minimum risk. Thus, the analysis clearly establishes the importance of sericulture over other crops in the generation of fresh employment opportunities in rural areas. Further, as a predominant sector of rural development, stability is the vital need of sericulture enterprise. In the book, an attempt is made to understand the anthropological/sociological view of development. The book is interdisciplinary in nature and will be useful to scholars and students of Anthropology, Sociology, Economics, Social Work, Rural Development, Gender Studies and Development Studies.
