It offers insights into key ELT issues which are at the forefront of twenty-first-century classrooms. It discusses theoretical and empirical work based on topics such as linguistic imperialism, English as a Medium of Instruction, contrastive language analysis, and the interplay between English and the use of countries’ respective native languages. It also explores the challenges of English Language Teaching under different circumstances such as, while using different technological platforms, working with different learner groups (those with Special Educational Needs) and revising traditional practices in grammar and vocabulary teaching. Book Description
Across Europe there is increasing concern that children from migrant families frequently under-perform in state school systems. The situation makes high demands on nursery and primary teachers whose initial and continuing professional development requires appropriate re-evaluation. The Socrates-Comenius project TESSLA with experts in Estonia, France, Germany, Sweden, Turkey and the UK presents courses that comprise the relevant subject areas: bilingual language acquisition, intercultural and language awareness, language assessment, literacy development and parental involvement. Teacher educators are also provided with a discussion of appropriate methodologies, including problem-based and online learning.

Book Description
The central question explored in this volume is: How is humor multimodally produced, perceived, responded to, and negotiated? To this end, it offers a panorama of linguistic research on multimodal and interactional humor, based on different theoretical frameworks, corpora, and methodologies. Humor is considered as an activity that is interactionally achieved, regardless of whether the interaction in which it is embedded is face-to-face, computer-mediated, with a human or a robot, oral or written. The aim is to analyze both the linguistic resources of the participants (such as their lexicon, prosody, gestures, gazes, or smiles) and the semiotic resources that social networks and instant messaging platforms offer them (such as memes, gifs, or emojis).
