Book Description
Anyone can learn these simple and fun methods for producing outstanding watercolor landscapes and flowers. One of the reasons that Royland's first book (Fill Your Watercolors with Light & Color - over 65,000 copies sold) has been so popular is that his techniques make watercolor Fun and Successful for a great number of otherwise frustrated artists. Roland has a gift for simplifying the process of painting into a few readily understood steps. In this book, he expands the teaching of his pouring technique and goes into a bit of the underlying structure of a painting. He presents his unique way of teaching composition that (we are told) delights his workshop classes. He then presents his three-step process of painting a landscape - masking to preserve the lights, pouring on the atmosphere and spattering the textures. Next, he shows two great techniques for painting flowers, a subject that does not appear in his first book. Also included is a chapter of fun experimental techniques that readers are sure to enjoy and another chapter that answers some frequently asked questions.

Book Description
The book begins with a description of the impression Canada made on Gissing upon his arrival in this country in 1913 at the age of 18. Gissing wanted to be a cowboy. He travelled from Alberta to California and back on horseback, sketching and painting as he went. Examples of this early work appear in the book. Gissing began selling his work and supporting himself solely by painting. The author discusses Gissing's technique as his style began to change and how the artist's frame of mind was reflected in his work. There is a good representation of the work of this period in the book. The book concludes with a discussion of Gissing's love of steam locomotives and some details about his time spent building these scale trains. Finally a sampling of paintings of the drastically different seascapes and badlands he was doing in the few years before his death, concludes the pictorial record of Gissing's life and works.

Book Description
"This joint biography tells the story of how a fashion model turned photographer and an English Quaker turned Surrealist painter and art collector influenced modern art with their vision and passion. As they inspired each other's careers and established their home as a meeting place for the exchange of ideas among artists such as Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, Max Ernst, Paul Eluard, Joan Miro, and Saul Steinberg, Miller and Penrose created a life together that was in itself a work of art. In the book concise accounts of their lives are followed by comparisons of their works, which demonstrate their symbiotic relationship. The range of art reproduced in the book - photographs, sketches, paintings, and collages - offers a kaleidoscopic sampling of these two important oeuvres and an exquisite portrayal of a unique and uniquely productive partnership."--Amazon.

Book Description
Although it resonates today with lavender fields, sunny heritage locations and the gentrified memory of Paul Cézanne’s pictorial turbulence, Provence has not always been the attractive territory of pacified leisure and festival culture. Since the seventeenth century, indeed, the region has inscribed its shifting geography, complex politics and the extraordinary diversity of its land and seascapes in the perception and imagination of British visitors. In the steps of anonymous or excellent travellers, the chapters of this volume chart some of the most significant moments in the intercultural transactions between the proud linguistic and literary distinctiveness of the province on one hand and the always challenged and sometimes baffled perception of Anglophone (and Anglophile) visitors on the other. Spanning across two centuries, from the largely unknown pre-revolutionary Provence visited by John locke and tobias smollett through the Victorian paradise of popular tourism and finally to the more secret ‘homeland’ of Modernists, this volume reveals an unexpected Provence which, in oblique and complex ways, has long held a mirror to British culture and often acted as the laboratory of its artistic life.
