Book Description
In Part 1 Keane gives a brief introduction to the period and outlines the most important events that took place during the course of the fight against the British in Cork from 1916 to 1921 and during the Civil War of 1922–23. This includes the burning of Cork city, the ambush at Kilmichael (which is examined in great detail), Crossbarry and the story of Tom Barry's trench coat. In Part 2 Keane uses a wealth of new sources to reconstruct every death that can be ascribed to the war, including those caught in the crossfire and some accidental deaths that can be directly linked to one side or the other. Some individuals who did not die in the county, but who were central to the conduct of the war there, are also included. One such example is Terence MacSwiney, who died in Brixton prison in London in October 1920, but was both head of the IRA in Cork and lord mayor of the city, having assumed the role after his predecessor, Tomás MacCurtain, had been assassinated earlier that year.

Book Description
The first comprehensive account to record and analyze all deaths arising from the Irish revolution between 1916 and 1921 This account covers the turbulent period from the 1916 Rising to the Anglo-Irish Treaty of December 1921—a period which saw the achievement of independence for most of nationalist Ireland and the establishment of Northern Ireland as a self-governing province of the United Kingdom. Separatists fought for independence against government forces and, in North East Ulster, armed loyalists. Civilians suffered violence from all combatants, sometimes as collateral damage, often as targets. Eunan O’Halpin and Daithí Ó Corráin catalogue and analyze the deaths of all men, women, and children who died during the revolutionary years—505 in 1916; 2,344 between 1917 and 1921. This study provides a unique and comprehensive picture of everyone who died: in what manner, by whose hands, and why. Through their stories we obtain original insight into the Irish revolution itself.

Book Description
The War of 1812 was fought by eighteen states--the original thirteen states that formed the Union, as well as Vermont, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Louisiana. In the preparation of this work, the compiler surveyed the records of the National Archives, as well as many of the libes and archives of the eighteen states in which fatalities were recorded. The end result is an authoritative list of some 3,500 known military dead of the War of 1812. The entries, which are alphabetically arranged, give the name of the deceased, his rank, the name of his company or branch of service, his date of death, and an indication as to whether the individual died in battle or as a prisoner of war.

A horror novel like you’ve never imagined. Zombies like you’ve never seen. William’s bad luck is about to turn—for the worse. Trapped behind enemy lines on the eve of revolution, the British officer has evaded colonial militia so far. When he stumbles across a quiet village, his hopes of escaping to the relative safety of Boston suddenly look promising. Until he runs into something worse than vengeful patriots prowling the darkness. Caught between the undead and roving bands of minutemen, William devises a desperate plan to make it out with his life. But before he can flee, he’s captured by the local villagers. Only one young woman, Carolyn, the daughter of a hated loyalist, believes his story of the unquiet dead. Between the two, they struggle to convince the others of the terror about to descend on all of them. As the undead sweep the outskirts of the town, William and Carolyn realize there’s only one way to stop them—by heading straight to the source of the plague, to the brooding lake a mile into the woods where the dead talk. What really happened out at the dark lake? Can they unlock the secret in time? And how far will the dead go to stop them now? From the bestselling author of the dark fantasy trilogyThe Books of Conjury comes this breakneck horror novel.

Formidable, authoritative and handsomely produced, The Dead of the Irish Revolution is a fitting memorial."--Andrew Lynch, Irish Independent "Will surely serve as the indispensable reference work on this topic for the foreseeable future. . . . Book Description
In recent years, feminist and queer theory have effectively disavowed both “the human” and revolutionary politics. In the face of massive geopolitical crisis, posthumanists have called for us to reconsider fundamentally the superiority and centrality of mankind and “the human,” and question how Man can presume to change the world by revolutionary action, particularly when Marx’s dreams seem to have been swept into the dustbin of history. This provocative book reaffirms what is most basic in feminism – the attack on the “universality” and sovereignty of Man – but contends that the only way this can mean anything other than pessimistic rhetoric is to embrace human agency and the struggle against colonialism and capitalism. In a series of “creolized” readings – Foucault with Ali Shari’ati, Lacan with Fanon, and Spinoza with Sylvia Wynter – the authors demonstrate what is at stake in the ongoing debate between humanism and posthumanism, putting this debate in the context of contemporary global crises and the possibilities of revolution. In its defense of “political spirituality,” this book pushes for a new trajectory in response to the gross inequalities of today, one that offers us a very different view of revolution and its present-day potential.

Book Description
The point of departure for the present publication is the strikingly innovative artistic spirit of the Russian avant-garde, along with the "Socialist Realism" that became established after the revolution. It addresses the radical conceptions of the revolutionary artistic movements of the early 20th century and their significance for the breakthroughs to abstraction and Constructivism. It also traces the implications and the traces of "Socialist Realism" as an ideologically motivated pictorial formula up to the present day. Also investigated is the actuality and viability of revolutionary ideas and art with reference to numerous examples of both abstract and representational art. For those interested in the works and ideas of these movements, and in the artistic consequences of the October Revolution in general, this sumptuous publication offers fascinating insights and a comprehensive overview.
