Book Description
How do you get the life you want when things aren’t going your way? When things go sideways, most people make one of two mistakes: they either give up on their dreams or they NEVER give up on their dreams, even when those dreams aren’t serving them. You can change your plans and still reach your goals. Scratch that. You HAVE to change your plans to reach your goals. That’s the real work of resilience. Resilience isn’t superhuman internal strength. It’s not toxic positivity. It’s not sucking it up to stick it out. True resilience is letting go of the “old way of doing things” and rewriting a script for success that gives you the fastest and best path from where you are to where you’re going. Backed by data-driven research, ReVisionary Thinking offers concrete strategies for blazing a new path to achieve your goal when the goalposts move on you. You will learn to acquire resilience through adaptive thinking, a three-part process involving flexibility, creativity, and openness to possibility. Specific principles covered include: How to mourn your path without sacrificing your goal Why your gut instinct fails you in unfamiliar situations—and how to counter it How to create space for more and better choices The benefits of using storytelling to solve problems And much more! Success is not determined by how good you plan is (or was), but rather by how willing you are to design a new one when you need to. You may not have chosen where you are, but you get a choice in what comes next. The success of your vision lies in the ReVision.

Book Description
John McDowell's Mind and World has, since its publication in 1994, become a seminal text, putting forward many new ideas on the manner in which concepts mediate the relation between minds and the world. Yet McDowell's ideas are not easy to comprehend. In this book Sandra Dingli both elaborates and simplifies McDowell's ideas in order to give greater clarity to them and to assist in the understanding and appreciation of his work. Dingli selects five particular contemporary philosophical topics which McDowell deals with and investigates in detail the implications of particular points of view, analysing the current literature on each topic and drawing out shortcomings and possibilities for overcoming them. This work is, then, both a critique and complement to McDowell's text. McDowell's project is to dissolve a number of dualisms such as sensibility and understanding, conceptual and non conceptual content, scheme and content, and reason and nature. Dingli critically analyses each of these and claims that a proper understanding of the philosophical method of quietism is important for a correct understanding of this text, concluding that McDowell does not go far enough in his attempt to attain peace for philosophy as traditional dichotomies such as that of realism and anti-realism still appear to exert a grip on his thinking.

Book Description
Central Works of Philosophy is a major multi-volume collection of essays on the core texts of the Western philosophical tradition. From Plato's Republic to the present day, the five volumes range over 2,500 years of philosophical writing covering the best, most representative, and most influential work of some of our greatest philosophers. Each essay has been specially commissioned and provides an overview of the work, clear and authoritative exposition of its central ideas, and an assessment of the work's importance. Together these books provide an unrivaled companion for studying and reading philosophy, one that introduces the reader to the masterpieces of the western philosophical canon. This volume covers the central texts in the history of analytic philosophy from Quine's Word and Object (1960) to the present day. The texts range over political philosophy, ethics, metaphysics and the philosophies of language, mind and logic and represent some of the most important philosophical work of the last forty years. Students and non-specialists who may find the technicality of some of the texts forbidding will welcome the clarity of exposition and exegesis that the essays provide. Taken together the essays provide both a map and compass for the current philosophical landscape and will prove a valuable resource not only for undergraduate and postgraduate philosophy students but for teachers and researchers in allied disciplines who need an understanding of the preoccupations of contemporary philosophy.

Book Description
“This engrossing history merges evolutionary biology and economics to explain our spending habits” and show how coolness is at the heart of consumerism (Mental Floss). We live in a world of conspicuous consumption, where the things we buy not only satisfy our needs, but also communicate our values, identities, and aspirations. In Cool, Steven Quartz and Anette Asp bring together groundbreaking findings in neuroscience, economics, and evolutionary biology to show how our concepts of “cool”—be it designer jeans, smartphones, or craft beer—help drive the global economy. Cool puts forth a provocative theory of consumerism based on our brain’s innate status-seeking and “social calculator”. The authors highlight the underlying processes that guide our often-unconscious decision making. They also pull back the curtain on “choice architects” who design store interiors, as well as “coolhunters” who scour Berlin and Tokyo for the latest trends. Quartz and Asp follow the evolution of “cool consumption” from the mid-twentieth century through the emergence of the Internet in the 1990s, finally unpacking the social motivations behind today’s hip, ethical consumption. Taking us from Norman Mailer to normcore, Cool is surprising at every turn, and will forever change the way you think about money, status, and your next purchase.

Book Description
This book introduces Reformed theology by surveying the doctrinal concerns that have shaped its historical development. The book sketches the diversity of the Reformed tradition through the past five centuries even as it highlights the continuity with regard to certain theological emphases. In so doing, it accentuates that Reformed theology is marked by both formal ('the always reforming church') and material ('the Reformed church') interests. Furthermore, it attends to both revisionary and conservative trends within the Reformed tradition. The book covers eight major theological themes: Word of God, covenant, God and Christ, sin and grace, faith, worship, confessions and authority, and culture and eschatology. It engages a variety of Reformed confessional writings, as well as a number of individual theologians (including Zwingli, Calvin, Bullinger, Bucer, Beza, Owen, Turretin, Edwards, Schleiermacher, Hodge, Shedd, Heppe, Bavinck, Barth, and Niebuhr).

Book Description
Can Christian theology overcome its long-standing supersessionism without diluting its Trinitarian faith? Can Christian faith remain genuinely Christian when it fails to recognize the covenantal significance of the Jews? In his later career, leading Trinitarian theologian Robert Jenson's theology moves in a post-supersessionistic direction. That said, the conceptual nexus between his Trinitarian theology and his post-supersessionism is not always patent on the surface of his texts. In this book, Lee traces the post-supersessionistic development of Jenson's Trinitarian theology and uncovers the reasons why Jenson's Trinitarian theology sets out to embrace the existence of the Jews. This book seeks to show that Jenson's revisionary--historicized, "carnalized," hermeneutical, and eschatological--Trinitarian ontology allows for genuine confession of the eternal triune God as the God of Israel, and that it thereby lays a firm basis for a properly Christian post-supersessionism.

Book Description
Cybercrimes are often viewed as technical offenses that require technical solutions, such as antivirus programs or automated intrusion detection tools. However, these crimes are committed by individuals or networks of people which prey upon human victims and are detected and prosecuted by criminal justice personnel. As a result, human decision-making plays a substantial role in the course of an offence, the justice response, and policymakers' attempts to legislate against these crimes. This book focuses on the human factor in cybercrime: its offenders, victims, and parties involved in tackling cybercrime. The distinct nature of cybercrime has consequences for the entire spectrum of crime and raises myriad questions about the nature of offending and victimization. For example, are cybercriminals the same as traditional offenders, or are there new offender types with distinct characteristics and motives? What foreground and situational characteristics influence the decision-making process of offenders? Which personal and situational characteristics provide an increased or decreased risk of cybercrime victimization? This book brings together leading criminologists from around the world to consider these questions and examine all facets of victimization, offending, offender networks, and policy responses.
