Depuis 1993, le concours d'accès aux études médicales subi à la fin de la première année de médecine (PCEM 1) s'est enrichi d'un nouveau groupe d'épreuves constituant un module dit de sciences humaines et sociales. Ce module incorpore une épreuve de " techniques d'expression " dont les formes ont été, dès l'origine, multiples dans les différentes facultés de médecine de France. Il s'agit ici de composer une dissertation, là un résumé, une analyse ou une comparaison de textes. Certaines facultés préfèrent des questions rédigées relatives à des épreuves d'étymologie, à la structure et à la composition des termes médicaux les plus courants. D'autres encore proposent une initiation aux principes et aux analyses des phénomènes de communication. Un point toutefois est commun. Il s'agit dans tous les cas de rédiger en langue française, de montrer que l'on sait tout simplement lire un texte, d'en écrire un autre, en respectant les codes en vigueur et en conduisant logiquement sa pensée. Il faut donc maîtriser parfaitement les règles qui président à la rédaction des épreuves écrites et sur lesquelles chaque université peut proposer quelques variantes. Cet ouvrage propose des rappels indispensables sur l'esprit et le contenu de ces épreuves, des méthodes de travail, des exercices et des annales corrigées. In Sexing the Citizen, Judith Surkis shows how masculine sexuality became central to the making of a republican social order. In Reign of Virtue, Miranda Pollard explores the effects of military defeat and Nazi occupation on French articulations of gender in wartime France. Drawing on governmental archives, historical texts, and propaganda, Pollard explores what most historians have ignored: the many ways in which Vichy's politicians used gendered images of work, family, and sexuality to restore and maintain political and social order. She argues that Vichy wanted to return France to an illustrious and largely mythical past of harmony, where citizens all knew their places and fulfilled their responsibilities, where order prevailed. The National Revolution, according to Pollard, replaced the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity with work, family, and fatherland, making the acceptance of traditional masculine and feminine roles a key priority. Pollard shows how Vichy's policies promoted the family as the most important social unit of a new France and elevated married mothers to a new social status even as their educational, employment, and reproductive rights were strictly curtailed.
