Book Description
The Zhujiang Delta region is the natural hinterland of Hong Kong. It has experienced astonishing growth since 1978 after the introduction of economic reforms and the open policy in China. Its subsequent development is, in many ways, closely related with that of Hong Kong. In fact, far-reaching economic integration has taken place between Hong Kong and the Zhujiang Delta. After China's entry to the WTO on December 11, 2001, such economic integration will be further strengthened. A world-class city-region is being formed around the Hong Kong and Zhujiang Delta area. Pressing issues and concerns of effective resource management, governance and sustainability are emerging due to accelerated industrialization, urbanization, globalization and regional integration. They will affect the future development and prosperity of the region. The book is a collective effort by leading scholars from Hong Kong, Mainland China, USA and Germany and offers updated and in-depth analyses of economic integration, migration, urbanization, regional development, resource management and urban/regional governance in the Hong Kong-Zhujiang Delta region in the context of development and transformation of Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Book Description
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China is located on the southeastern coast of China, and the Macao SAR can be found off of China's southern coast. Both regions have recently been released from European colonial rule: Hong Kong from British control in 1997 and Macao from Portugal in 1999. As SARs, Hong Kong and Macao retain a high degree of autonomy, and they control all issues except those of state (e.g. diplomatic relations and national defense). The A to Z of the Hong Kong SAR and the Macao SAR includes maps, photographs, a list of acronyms, a chronology, an introductory essay, a bibliography, and hundreds of cross-referenced dictionary entries on important persons, places, and events as well as political, economic and social background. However, unlike the rest of the series, all these sections are presented in duplicate: one for Hong Kong and one for Macao. The authoritative analysis and informative data presented clearly elucidate the unique situation of these two territories.

Book Description
This book analyzes the recent growth of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Hong Kong, seven major Chinese coastal cities. The authors detail theoretical mechanisms, spatial and non-spatial models of development, all while exploring possible directions to sustainability. They also look at how these cities have developed over the last 30 years, from the late 1970s to the 21st century. Each has its own unique background, regional and national positions, advantages, and functions. Using diversified approaches and measurements for each city, the authors argue that structural changes are necessary to achieve much needed sustainable development. The book covers developmental issues such as the regaining of central city and global city statuses, the role of governments in steering development, and achieving goals through mega projects, urban competitiveness, positioning, and branding. Including varied assessment and intense suggestions for structural changes, this book addresses core concerns for the sustainable growth of these metropolises. A valuable book for students, researchers and policy makers.

Book Description
Many people have doubts about the return of sovereignty over Hong Kong to China in 1997. They were not optimistic about the "one country, two systems" formula. How should Hong Kong be judged as a Special Administrative Region within China in the first decade of its existence? This book has set out to answer this question. Renowned scholars from outside Hong Kong, largely from countries with close links to Hong Kong's handover or other links, have addressed this question from their perspectives. These views are supplemented by introspective reviews by Hong Kong academics, who examine different sectors that have undergone important changes during this period. It is a major contribution to the study of Hong Kong after its return to the motherland.
