On 5 December 2017, the IOC Executive Board suspended the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) with immediate effect and created a pathway to invite individual Russian athletes to participate in the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 as an Olympic Athlete from Russia (OAR).
