Book Description
The essays in Religious Upbringing and the Costs of Freedom are the personal stories of philosophers who were brought up religiously and have broken free, in one way or another, from restraint and oppression. As trained philosophers, they are well equipped to reflect on and analyze their experiences. In this book, they offer not only stories of stress and liberation but ruminations on the moral issues that arise when parents and other caregivers, in seeking to do good by their children, sometimes end up doing real harm to their personal development and sense of autonomy as individuals. In addition to the editors, the contributors are Raymond D. Bradley, Damien Alexander DuPont, Diane Enns, Paul H. Hirst, Amalia Jiva, Irfan Khawaja, Christine Overall, Tasia R. Persson, and Glen Pettigrove.

Book Description
The Price of Freedom Denied shows that, contrary to popular opinion, ensuring religious freedom for all reduces violent religious persecution and conflict. Others have suggested that restrictions on religion are necessary to maintain order or preserve a peaceful religious homogeneity. Brian J. Grim and Roger Finke show that restricting religious freedoms is associated with higher levels of violent persecution. Relying on a new source of coded data for nearly 200 countries and case studies of six countries, the book offers a global profile of religious freedom and religious persecution. Grim and Finke report that persecution is evident in all regions and is standard fare for many. They also find that religious freedoms are routinely denied and that government and the society at large serve to restrict these freedoms. They conclude that the price of freedom denied is high indeed.

Book Description
Winner of the René Wellek Prize Named a Best Book of the Year by The Guardian, The Millions, and The Sydney Morning Herald This Life offers a profoundly inspiring basis for transforming our lives, demonstrating that our commitment to freedom and democracy should lead us beyond both religion and capitalism. Philosopher Martin Hägglund argues that we need to cultivate not a religious faith in eternity but a secular faith devoted to our finite life together. He shows that all spiritual questions of freedom are inseparable from economic and material conditions: what matters is how we treat one another in this life and what we do with our time. Engaging with great philosophers from Aristotle to Hegel and Marx, literary writers from Dante to Proust and Knausgaard, political economists from Mill to Keynes and Hayek, and religious thinkers from Augustine to Kierkegaard and Martin Luther King, Jr., Hägglund points the way to an emancipated life.

Book Description
"Religious freedom-our "first freedom"-is one of the most important things the American experiment gave the world. Sadly, many Americans have forgotten not only the importance of this core freedom but also that its roots are founded in biblical principles. Most Christians in the U.S. are either unaware of this fact or do not understand why it is important. They also do not know that they are called to champion religious freedom for all. As a result, the religious liberties we take for granted are now being challenged in the courts. What we do in the next ten years will have a significant and lasting impact on the direction of our country. In Set Free: Restoring Religious Freedom for All, editors Art Lindsley and Anne Rathbone Bradley explore the biblical underpinnings of religious freedom and how those biblical roots were understood throughout history, the essential role of religious freedom in promoting human flourishing, and how religious freedom is now being challenged. With contributions from Christian theologians, historians, and public policy analysts, Set Free provides readers with a firm understanding of Christianity's unique and essential contribution to religious freedom and why this precious freedom must be restored at all costs, for people of all faiths"--

Book Description
To believe and to know, faith and science; only liberty can cordinate these two supreme ideas, destined to diverge, to meet, to contradict each other, ideas which on account of this very divergence, this contradiction and this agreement, underlie the organic evolution of progress and civilization. -from God in Freedom LUIGI LUZZATTI; ALFONSO ARBIB-COSTA (TRANSLATOR) (1841-1927) was a scholar of tremendous erudition and authority; an expert in economics, law, and politics; a champion of religious freedom in Italy-and a triumphant one: he was the nation's first Jewish prime minister, serving from 1910 to 1911. Just before that groundbreaking civil victory, though, in 1909, he achieved his other great success: the publication of his God in Freedom. Greatly expanded for its first English-language edition (of which this volume is a replica) God in Freedom is one of the most comprehensive and historically important discourses on religious liberty ever written. Luzzatti explores the battle for intellectual and philosophical independence from its pre-Christian proponents in the Far East to the movements in his day to keep civic life free of pious influence in the United Kingdom, Europe, and America. Saint Francis of Assisi and the Ku Klux Klan, the Buddha and Darwin...all are present here, and others; too, whose thoughts and actions have tested the boundaries between civic and religious life. This is a history of faith and freedom that is itself a cry for tolerance, openness, and careful separation of the secular and the sacred.

Book Description
A democratic republic depends upon two unassailable truths: Freedom can only exist (1) where the laws of God are considered absolute and (2) where the majority believe that God, not man and not government, created men and women equal. This book is founded on the principle that only truth can make us free and that the Holy Bible is the foundation of our freedom. This book explores law and presents what is necessary to maintain our liberty. I seek to show that without adherence to absolute truth and absolute law, freedom cannot exist. If we want agency, we must choose good over evil. If we want freedom, we must obey the laws of freedom. If we want liberty, we must align our social laws with the laws of God. In Washington D.C. stands a statue with the following words inscribed on the base: 'Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.' There is no shortcut to freedom, to agency, or to liberty. No matter what storm clouds gather without, if we want liberty, we must obey the laws of liberty within. Our liberty was threatened when the British invaded the colonies; our liberty was threatened when the first slave ship was permitted to unload its human misery on American soil; our liberty was threatened when the South seceded from the union; our liberty was threatened when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, but those threats are but a prelude to the threats that threaten our liberty today. Before, the menace came from without; today, the threat to our liberty comes from within.Christianity is under attack. Religious freedom is under attack. Freedom of speech is under attack. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are under attack. Racism is used as a weapon by the left to deliberately divide America. Our borders are left vulnerable. Our economy is threatened. Our justice system is used with impunity for personal vendetta. Rather than truth, our congress ignores rule of law and uses slander and personal attack to impede justice. They put personal power over the voice of the people. The word God is being removed from our Pledge of Allegiance, from our schools, even from our nation. We are apologizing for our liberty, our language, our religion, our moral values, our standards, our laws, our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, our belief in God, our way of life, and even for our blessings. News sources, which once were standards of freedom of speech, are now mere propaganda machines governed by the left to generate fake news, slanted facts, and orchestrated slander against anyone who disagrees with their liberal policies. Some want to remove our flag from its standard, "In God we trust" from our coins, and "Under God" from our Pledge of Allegiance. They want to remove crosses, bibles, prayers, and all other Christian symbols, icons, ceremonies, and sacraments from public eyes as if Christ, the author of our liberty, were something to be ashamed of. I suppose that all Christians, at some point, must answer the question, 'Why am I a Christian?' For me it is a love of truth and a love of freedom. All I want said of me is that I loved freedom, agency, and liberty more than I loved life; and that I loved truth and the fountain of truth more than I loved the philosophies of men, more than I loved the world, and more than I loved myself. Book Description
When we think of freedom, we think of a life that benefits from the quality or state of being free. There is the idea of having no constraints in the choices that we make. Freedom speaks to the fact that one is liberated from whatever previously held him captive. There is a lot being said these days about human rights, which include things such as Freedom of speech, Freedom of assembly, Freedom of worship etc. Despite all of the efforts made by individuals and world organizations, there are still many nations and perhaps billions of individuals who do not enjoy what one would call this basic freedom. As you read this book, there are many people who are fighting for their freedom because there are those who want to rob them of their rights; and so, what we see being experienced in this world is the sad realization that there is no real freedom outside of Jesus Christ. In The Cost of My Freedom, Samuel Fowler addresses the issues that faced the human race because of the act of disobedience in the Garden of Eden, which placed us all in a state of bondage, and how Jesus came and set us free through His death and resurrection. He also dealt with what we would face when we form a real relationship with Christ, and how He will fulfill his promise, never to leave us alone. You will learn about: Forgiveness Freedom from Paradise The impact of a relationship with Christ Gathering storm clouds Deceit, Power and Imprisonment As you read you will be encouraged to trust Christ for a freedom that will last; a freedom that Christ paid for on your behalf. "If the son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8: 36)
