La société se transforme et avec elle l’hôpital, qui est un lieu où se côtoient des populations diverses, aux différences multiples, notamment culturelles. Cette pluralité rejaillit sur les phénomènes communicationnels et les relations entre personnes soignées et soignantes, mais aussi entre les professionnels eux-mêmes. L’hôpital est également une organisation contraignante, marquée par les normes et la standardisation ainsi que par une logique économique toujours plus prégnante. Quelle influence la diversité culturelle a-t-elle sur la communication au sein des équipes soignantes et comment le travail collectif s’élabore-t-il dans ce contexte général ? Pour répondre à cette question qui impacte la qualité du travail, ce livre se centre sur les interactions au sein des équipes soignantes, qui sont mises en exergue lors des moments de relève interéquipe. Ces moments sont indispensables pour l’organisation du travail, la continuité des soins et la régulation des actions mises en oeuvre. Les relèves rassemblent des infirmières, des aides-soignantes et des cadres de santé, qui réalisent en coopération ou en collaboration les soins directs aux patients. Les moments d’échanges ou de points entre infirmières et médecins sont aussi abordés. Les nombreuses observations de telles relèves et les nombreux entretiens menés ont montré des difficultés certaines à échanger mais aussi à travailler ensemble pour ces équipes marquées par la pluralité des cultures et origines. L’étude révèle ainsi que des formes de discrimination tacites ou manifestes, plus ou moins assumées, portant sur l’appartenance professionnelle ou l’origine, existent au sein des équipes comme entre patients et professionnels. Les relations ne sont pas exemptes de non-dits et de préjugés qui peuvent nuire au travail collectif. Il est ici du ressort des cadres de santé de favoriser l’harmonie au sein des équipes, car prendre soin de la communication entre professionnels, c’est veiller à ce qu’ils puissent prendre soin au mieux des patients. La diversité culturelle et l’hétérogénéité des membres d’une équipe de soins constituent une source d’enrichissement des pratiques, à condition que les échanges entre chacun soient de qualité et respectueux et que des dérives ne puissent pas s’installer : le moment de la relève interéquipe est l’un des plus favorables à l’exercice de cette veille. Ce livre s’adresse à l’ensemble des équipes soignantes soucieuses d’organiser et de construire ensemble le sens de leurs actions.
