Book Description
Technological advances, especially within information and communication technologies, have brought remarkable changes in the functions and services of libraries and information centers. In recent decades, the library and information service sector has witnessed rapid changes due to various factors. In order to cope with these changes and to improve the organizational performance through the effective use of the latest technologies, various strategies are commonly used. Among these, Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) is one of the leading management approaches which deals with the radical redesign of an organization's processes, especially its business processes. Rather than organizing an institution into functional specialties (like production, accounting, marketing, etc.) and looking at the tasks that each function performs, the re-engineering theory is looking at complete processes from acquisition, to production or services, to marketing, distribution, and dissemination. Hence, the organization should be re-engineered into a series of processes. BPR in libraries target to serve the clientele not as a mechanical act, but one that provides an opportunity for fulfillment and meaning. Policy planners, head of institutions, librarians, and library staff should be able to understand the principles of re-engineering their libraries. This book provides a detailed management analysis in the context of modern ICTs and depicts various aspects of re-engineering that can be used to re-define the business processes of libraries, especially university libraries. The book also discusses the re-engineering and re-defining aspects of collection management, personnel management, technology management, service management, etc.

Book Description
The genre of library services platforms helps libraries manage their collection materials and automate many aspects of their operations by addressing a wider range of resources and taking advantage of current technology architectures compared to the integrated library systems that have previously dominated. This issue of Library Technology Reports explores this new category of library software, including its functional and technical characteristics. It highlights the differences with integrated library systems, which remain viable for many libraries and continue to see development along their own trajectory. This report provides an up-to-date assessment of these products, including those that have well-established track records as well as those that remain under development. The relationship between library services platforms and discovery services is addressed. The report does not provide detailed listings of features of each product, but gives a general overview of the high-level organization of functionality, the adoption patterns relative to size, types, and numbers of libraries that have implemented them, and how these libraries perceive their performance. This seminal category of library technology products has gained momentum in recent years and is positioned to reshape how libraries acquire, manage, and provide access to their

Book Description
Shortly after the syllabi are posted, and long before the beginning of the term, interlibrary loan departments at academic libraries will have filled or rejected innumerable textbook requests. While it would be unwise if not impossible to buy and circulate every textbook at a college or university, there are many academic libraries who are selectively adding textbooks to their collections. And the practice seems to be gaining momentum. In this volume, the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) and editor Chris Diaz gather case studies that pull together creative approaches and best practices for print textbook reserve programs. This book discusses such topics as results and analysis from a detailed survey of a state university’s core-course textbook reserve program; funding sources for starting or piloting a program;using aggregated enrollment, grade, and textbook cost data to identify "high impact" courses;identifying course-related books that are in the library’s collection or fit an existing collection policy;workflow for using bookstore data with ILS and purchasing systems; andusing LibGuides and Google Sheets to publicize textbook holdings, and how a back-end database supports discovery for students and reporting for reserves staff. A textbook reserve program can be one way of helping students who are struggling with the high cost of textbooks, and this book spotlights a variety of examples that can be used as models.
