Book Description
"Maybe you and I have been there where Jesus was. Abandoned by others at the very time we craved connection. Misunderstood in terms of wanting to be with others and not "just left alone" to get over it by ourselves. Maybe we've entered our own age of loneliness. Maybe we've felt as if we, too, were sweating blood while others were off taking it easy. Maybe we've had our own Gethsemane moments. And, then again, maybe we've been where Peter, James and John were. Tired. Sleepy. Oblivious to the cries of another person who we've interpreted as being "alone" instead of "lonely." Maybe you and I have also been the Church asleep at the switch during someone else's worst ever time of fear, loneliness, temptation. If so, there is hope. There is redemption available for our Gethsemanes in this world. Redemption for us when we are living in our own age of loneliness. And redemption from us when we are called to wake up and change our own response to others during their times of fear, loneliness, and temptation.""Redeeming Gethsemane relates real life experiences to scripture to overcome loneliness and challenges us to wake up and live out the Gospel. Dan Held skillfully weaves these experiences to make the scripture come alive in new ways. A great study book!" -- Donald L. Hayashi, past Associate General Secretary, General Council on Ministries of the United Methodist Church "Dan Held offers an antidote to loneliness: hope. Using Gethsemane, the stories of Scripture, and the words of Jesus, Held paints a portrait of renewal desperately needed today. As a bonus, discussion questions make the book ideal for group study. Gethsemane gives hope!" -- Thomas Jay Oord, author of The Uncontrolling Love of God and numerous other books

Book Description
This past April 14, 2016, Nita Raye and I celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary surrounded by our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, plus many good friends. The joy was overwhelming. The reflection on all those memories brought tears of rejoicing to our eyes, and we thanked and praised God for His many blessings. Jesus was and is God, but for a time and a purpose, he put on the cloak of humanity and wept like we do for the suffering of others and finally for his own impending trail and anguish. Jesus, as God, knew what was coming and had prepared himself for it from the foundation of the world. He was ready to rescue all humanity from Satan's lair. Jesus, the human son of man, had to overcome his humanity in his garden of Gethsemane before He could accomplish His godly task on Earth. All of us have events in our lives that spiritually we have prepared for, yet when the trial presents itself, we try to avoid it. Jesus prayed three times at an hour each time, to have this horrific event taken from Him instead of having to go through it. Yet in the end He accepts it for you and me and for the joy beyond. Today, we rejoice in God for his trustworthiness with family, friends, and our two little helpers, Mr. Cooper and Miss Molly. Blessings to all

Book Description
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27) Death; An unfortunate reality that awaits all men. Jesus’ sacrifice solved the eternal death problem; the physical appointment with death – caused by Adam, nonetheless, still remains sacrosanct. More intimidating also, is the mystery behind the timing, when this menace decides to pay his visit; as the hour of death, is unknown to most men. Some, however, who by reason of their misdeeds, have been placed on death row. These ones, are certain of when their ‘ends’ would be. Perhaps, the luxury of not knowing the scheduled time for death, affords many the ease and comfort to embrace this life, without care and worry. To those on death row, this is not the case. The sheer horror of knowing one’s ‘death date’, petrifies. It also transfixes and stupefies – mildly put. The Gethsemane episode of the Christ, could best be explained by the death row experience. Because of His omniscient nature, the Son of God knew what was soon to happen. He fully understood the cruelty and savagery, that He was about to face. Knowing His death date, was bad enough. Worse, were the coming betrayals, isolation and immense torture. His foreknowledge of these events, only offered Him more misery. Grief, pain and unbearable agony. In some thirty-three years the Christ had spent on Earth, He was never this vulnerable. The Son of God, was really at His wits end! That day – and in that place, the whole plan for redemption could have been aborted. An action, that would have doomed our fates forever. But what sustained the Son of God on His quest? What kept Him resolute, even as His odyssey hung by a thread? Let’s take a walk through that garden, at Gethsemane. Listen to the echoes… ‘even as we appreciate our Lord’s perseverance, patience and love, in His venture to save our souls. Lest we forget!

Book Description
It is a place that has been shrouded in mystery. It is a place where faith is tested and the heart is crushed. It is the place where God meets with you and begins the healing process. Gethsemane has become such a part of the passion narrative that few realize exactly what transpired there. Jimmy Foster, in his book Gethsemane, walks you into the garden on that night. There we see the suffering of the Son of God. We see things that would distract him from fulfilling his plan. We hear the resolution in his prayer. We realize that someone has walked the path of suffering before us. It was at that place where one of the most monumental events in history took place. Gethsemane-where the Son of God faced off with the dark forces of evil. Gethsemane-where the fate of the world hung in the balance. Gethsemane-where the heart is crushed.

Book Description
Gethsemamnesia follows Jesus through his weakest mortal moments in the Garden of Gethsemane and at Golgotha and explores the valuable, uplifting and empowering lessons we can learn from the Condescended Christ. If Jesus could have moments of mortal weakness and yet be sinless, then it is no sin for us, his fellow mortals, to have those moments also. If Jesus begged for exemption from suffering and asked "why" it is okay for us to do likewise. Gethsemamnesia should be required reading for all those who suffer and struggle, which is all of us.
