A much more important thing happened in_ Farmville. There, in March of 1930, he met Miss Elaine C. Goode, a student in what was then a state teachers college, but is now Longwood College. The introduction was brought about by some well-intentioned fraternity brothers. [judge Field was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity, as a number of the brothers are proud to point out.
