Book Description
Centered in a definition of vocation that flows from Luther's conviction that all Christians share the same vocation but live it out in various occupations and roles, Reclaiming the "V" Word challenges readers to see themselves as instruments of God's mission-as church-wherever they are. From a strong foundation of Lutheran theology (reframed for twenty-first century application), the authors use real life stories and thoughtful exercises to help readers discern what this means for Christian life in today's world.

Book Description
God is up to something! God is on a mission to save and bless the world, and God calls the church to be part of this mission. That means getting focused, setting people free, taking action, expecting surprises, and being hopeful. A church on God's mission isn't a building or a building plus a pastor. It's people-people who carry out God's mission in the world. Building on her bestselling book, Reclaiming the "L" Word, Kelly A. Fryer gives practical advice on how to transform our idea of church and what that means for our lives as Christians.

Book Description
Reclaiming the "L" Word is a book about renewing congregations by recognizing and living out the core teachings of the Lutheran faith. Primarily written for those who call themselves Lutheran and, specifically, those who are members of ELCA congregations, this little book helps us answer these central questions: Who are we? What DOES it mean to be a Lutheran today, anyway? And, why does it matter. Inspirational, engaging, and challenging, this book is a must-read for pastors and congregational leaders!

Who is the Holy Spirit? How does the Spirit work in our lives as individuals, families, communities, and in the world at large? What would happen if we claimed the promise of our baptism-that the Spirit truly is with us, creating within our bodies the new life we have in Jesus Christ? Drawing on Scripture, Luther's writings, and contemporary theology, Lois Malcolm invites readers to experience the Spirit's creative life and power-precisely within the complexity of our everyday lives.

Book Description
What difference does environment make in a congregation's life and mission? A world of a difference if understood and embraced, say the authors of Church on Earth: Grounding your Ministry in a Sense of Place. Focusing on the congregation as place-a unique nexus for cultivating spiritual, social, and ecological relationships-has implications for the shape of a congregation's particular identity and vocation; for how it embodies and proclaims the gospel in worship, education, evangelism, and service

Book Description
This volume explores unschooling as a growing phenomenon within the broader field of home education and considers the unique position of parents who engage in this self-directed form of education with their children. Drawing on an in-depth hermeneutic phenomenological study, the volume investigates the double consciousness of parents as they balance the costs/benefits of unschooling and navigate the roles of leading/following and parenting/teaching in the education and upbringing of their children. The author conceptualizes unschooling in the context of curriculum theory and situates it within the larger home education movement. By highlighting the fluctuating, (un)divided position that parents assume, the volume examines how learning and living are rendered inseparable in unschooling, thereby revealing unschoolers’ experience of a curriculum of learning-through-living. This book will be of great interest to researchers, scholars, and postgraduates working across the fields of curriculum studies, parenting and family studies, and the sociology of education.
