Answering that question without doing away with the divine dignity of Christ has been a challenge in the distant and recent past. But this need not be the case. The current work is a contribution to the growing field of Spirit Christology, which seeks to enrich the classic Logos Christology of the ecumenical Councils with a Spirit-oriented trajectory. Sanchez tests the productivity of a Spirit Christology as a theological lens for assessing the main events of Jesus' life and mission, accounts of the atonement, the significance of the incarnation, the concepts of person and relation, and models of the Trinity. Seeing Christ as the privileged locus of the Spirit also has implications for the church's life in the Spirit. Sanchez shows how a Spirit Christology fosters Christian practices such as proclamation, prayer, and sanctification. Social Trinitarians have not been shy about positing community as the chief ontological category for Trinitarian discourse. As beneficial as this is, social Trinitarians have typically been less helpful in advocating the sort of human community for the Trinitarian analogy that most people would probably find desirable. To use the example of a marriage, one has often been forced to choose between a fully egalitarian view, where the spouses supposedly have no differences from each other, and a hierarchical view where a husband exercises a unilateral and oppressive power over his wife. This book advocates a third alternative for the sort of community present in the Trinity. Just as genuine teamwork is generally desirable in various human communities, the divine persons have a mutual hierarchy relationship with each other. Here each divine person has a unique hierarchy over the others, and yet each uses this hierarchy to serve the others in a dignified way. Recognizing this mutual hierarchy of the divine persons fosters a view of the Trinity that is maximally social, in keeping with the name "social Trinitarianism." In proceeding thus, the book attempts to, in a unique way, show the harmony between systematic theology, exegesis, and practice.

Hope is a widespread, if not a universal, human experience. For centuries, followers of Jesus of Nazareth have ordered their lives around a central hope. How is their experience similar to or different from others who live by hope? This book seeks an answer in the idea that living by hope involves living within a peculiar story of the world--an incomplete story. The stories that shape these hopes are threatened by evil, however it may be defined. The hopeful struggle as characters caught up in plots that move toward resolution. They exercise an as-yet unverified hope that evil will not prevail. In this regard, the hope of Christians is similar to others. Yet, it is different because they wait for the God of Jesus to transform the world to match the promise he made to Abraham. To arrive at this conclusion, this book takes a detour through four model life-organizing stories. Christians and participants in other stories-of-the-world may not agree on the ultimate ground for hope. However, taking a detour into the hopeful experience of another may help uncover a place where rivals can stand together long enough to talk.
