Book Description
A man who for 23 years worked in the railway factory at Swindon writes about life as a hotter and stamper. An idealist with his feet on the ground, the author had some reputation as a poet while still at work and was unable to publish this account until illness drove him to leave the factory because the truth would cost him his job. He is appreciative of man's generosity and sense of fair play, his skill and strength, but scornful of his inhumanity and ruthlessness.

Book Description
This book aims to cover the need for a new scientific approach for railways and is useful for railway managers, economists and engineers, consulting economists and engineers, students of schools of engineering, transportation, economics, and management. The book is divided into three parts, which deal successively with management, track, rolling stock, and environment and safety. Each chapter contains the necessary theoretical analysis of the phenomena studied, the recommended solutions, applications, charts and design of the specific railway component. In this way, both the requirement for a theoretical analysis is met, and the need of the railway manager and engineer for tables, nomographs, regulations, etc. is satisfied.

Book Description
Survivor on the River Kwai is the heartbreaking story of Reg Twigg, one of the last men standing from a forgotten war. Called up in 1940, Reg expected to be fighting Germans. Instead, he found himself caught up in the worst military defeat in modern British history - the fall of Singapore to the Japanese. What followed were three years of hell, moving from one camp to another along the Kwai river, building the infamous Burma railway for the all-conquering Japanese Imperial Army. Some prisoners coped with the endless brutality of the code of Bushido by turning to God; others clung to whatever was left of the regimental structure. Reg made the deadly jungle, with its malaria, cholera, swollen rivers, lethal snakes and exhausting heat, work for him. With an ingenuity that is astonishing, he trapped and ate lizards, harvested pumpkins from the canteen rubbish heap and with his homemade razor became camp barber. That Reg survived is testimony to his own courage and determination, his will to beat the alien brutality of camp guards who had nothing but contempt for him and his fellow POWs. He was a risk taker whose survival strategies sometimes bordered on genius. Reg's story is unique. Reg Twigg was born at Wigston (Leicester) barracks on 16 December 1913. He was called up to the Leicestershire Regiment in 1940 but instead of fighting Hitler he was sent to the Far East, stationed at Singapore. When captured by the Japanese, he decided he would do everything to survive. After his repatriation from the Far East, Reg returned to Leicester. With his family he returned to Thailand in 2006, and revisited the sites of the POW camps. Reg died in 2013, at the age of ninety-nine, two weeks before the publication of this book.

Book Description
Thy Life’s a Miracle RJ The Harvester of Opportunities Rakesh Jain, aka RJ, is a successful self-made entrepreneur from Lucknow who dabbled in many business ideas but didn’t blink whenever he hit a roadblock or even when he hit rock bottom. An intuitive and brave-hearted risk-taker, he was helped along by people in seemingly miraculous ways and finally set up the PRAG Group of Companies making quality engineering products for the Indian Railways. Over time, he ended up being a brilliant Relationship Jockey (RJ) who conquered great heights in the face of adversities. Armed with a smile, a business plan and shoals of positive energy he tempted fate with childlike innocence only to be showered with miracles. The chapters throw up mind-boggling questions like: Do miracles really happen? If they do, why do they happen to a man deeply involved in the world of business and enterprise? Does a human being need to be the perfect receptacle for miracles to play out in daily life? Rakesh Jain’s thrilling and dramatic life story throws up philosophical possibilities as to what construes a miracle? Can RJ’s miracles be replicated by young entrepreneurs trying to make a mark with their startups? Rakesh’s own journey has been nothing short of miraculous. When he unexpectedly lost a secure job he set up a small entrepreneurial enterprise in Lucknow and expanded it to Mumbai. Life’s unexpected twists and turns are reflected in this absorbing book by Rakesh, and its ups and downs that occur to all of us, but Rakesh‘s persona and temperament have turned seemingly unfavourable situations into agreeable and pleasant outcomes! Rakesh’s fascinating story which I have enjoyed reading and which I hope you will find inspiring. I raise a toast to his courage and indomitable will and wish him all success in his life! ~ Shatrughan Sinha A man must be ready to harness the good and gratifying from the godsend thrown at him by fate. And such a man is Rakesh, who goes beyond mere rejoicing in the fruits of simple serendipity to a belief that harvesting of opportunities is our true karma. ~ Sudhanshu Mani
