A search for the decays B --> [rho](770)[gamma] and B[sup 0] --> [omega](782)[gamma] is performed on a sample of 211 million [Upsilon](4S) --> B[bar B] events collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e[sup +]e[sup -] storage ring. No evidence for the decays is seen. The authors set the following limits on the individual branching fractions B(B[sup +] --> [rho][sup +][gamma]) 1.8 x 10[sup -6], B(B[sup 0] -- [rho][sup 0][gamma]) 0.4 x 10[sup -6], and B(B[sup 0] -- [omega][gamma]) 1.0 x 10[sup -6] at the 90% confidence level (C.L.). They use the quark model to limit the combined branching fraction [bar B]B -- ([rho]/[omega])[gamma]

Electroweak penguin decays provide a promising hunting ground for Physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). The decay B[yields] X[sub s][gamma], which proceeds through an electromagnetic penguin loop, already provides stringent constraints on the supersymmetric (SUSY) parameter space. The present data samples of[approx]1 x 10[sup 8] B[bar B] events allow to explore radiative penguin decays with branching fractions of the order of 10[sup -6] or less. In this brief report they discuss a study of B[yields] K*[ell][sup+][ell][sup -] decay modes and a search for B[yields][rho]([omega])[gamma] decays.

Radiative and electroweak penguin decays of B mesons are flavor-changing-neutral-current processes that provide powerful ways to test the Standard Model at the one-loop level, to search for the effects of new physics, and to extract Standard Model parameters such as CKM matrix elements and quark masses. The large data samples obtained by the B-factory experiments BaBar and Belle, together with an intensive theoretical effort, have led to significant progress towards understanding these rare decays. Recent experimental results include the measurements of the b 2!d[gamma] decays B 2[gamma], the observation of B 2!K(*)ll− decays (together with studies of the associated kinematic distributions), and improved measurements of the inclusive B 2!Xs[gamma] rate and photon energy spectrum.

This document describes the measurements of the branching fractions and isospin violations of the radiative electroweak penguin decays B 2!([rho]/[omega])[gamma] at the asymmetric-energy ee− PEP-II collider with the BABAR detector. Together with the previously measured branching fractions of the decays B 2!K*[gamma] the ratio of CKM-matrix elements.
