Queen
Author: Andrew Wild
Publisher: Sonicbond Publishing Ltd
ISBN: 1789520258
Category : Music
Languages : en
Pages : 204
Book Description
The first book to analyse every Queen song - giving equal weight to album tracks alongside the hits . * Includes analysis of about 20 classic songs using the original 24 track master tapes. * Queen remain ever popular and active, and continue to tour despite the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991. This book examines Queen's music, album by album, track by track, in detail. Where possible, recourse to the original multi-track master tapes has provided extra insight. Those familiar hits are revisited, but those classic album cuts - like `Liar', `March of the Black Queen', `Death on Two Legs', and `Dragon Attack', `are given equal precedence. The book also examines the changes that these same four musicians went through - from heavy and pomp rock to pop as the chart hits began to flow - with a keen and unbiased eye. Whether as a fan your preference is for the albums `A Night at the Opera', `Jazz' or `Innuendo' this detailed and definitive guide will tell you all you need to know. Queen had strength in depth. These are the songs on which a legend was built. Andrew Wild is an experienced writer with several books to his credit. HIs previous works include official biographies of the bands Twelfth Night (Play On, 2009) and Galahad (One for the Record, 2012) and more recently Pink Floyd Song by Song (Fonthill 2017). His play The Difficult Crossing was published in 2016. He lives in Rainow, Cheshire

Reign
Author: E.J. Knox
Publisher: Kinky Siren
ISBN: 1925928268
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 318
Book Description
From Elizabeth Stevens, writing as E.J. Knox comes... A King. An Heir. And the unwilling pawn with the power to win or crush a Royal coup. Beckett Maxwell reigns over Rivermont Academy with his loyal court: the Royals, their courtiers, their harem. He doesn’t have time for a nobody like me: a scholarship student and daughter of faculty to boot. I’m the lowest of the low in a school full of highs. One year everything's going fine. Enough. The next, I’m some pawn in a Royal power struggle. Well, I won’t have it. They can bully me, they can torment me, they can make my life miserable. But I will not be used in one of their twisted games. But when the fox is lurking at the door, sometimes the only safety is in the arms of the lion. Beckett might actually be the lesser evil in this case. And I can’t deny there’s something between us. Something I wish wasn’t there. The closer we get, the further he pushes me away, but something keeps pulling me back. When it comes to Beckett Maxwell, I’m a sucker for punishment. But I’ll only bear it so long. If Beckett wants his claim on me to stick, then he might need to choose between his crown and my heart. This is a dark, angsty, contemporary high school bully/enemies-to-lovers romance with enough steam to melt your screen. Do not engage in public consumption unless your poker face is impenetrable. Do not read if you don’t like bossy alpha males claiming what’s theirs, a nerdy but feisty heroine determined to keep what independence she can, unlikely friendships, snarky love-to-hate-them side characters, or bad boys with secret hearts of gold. This book is set in Australia and therefore written using Australian English. This will affect the spelling, grammar and syntax you may be used to. It might come across as typos, awkward sentences, poor grammar, or missed/wrong words. In the majority of cases (I won’t claim it’s infallible, despite all best efforts), this is intentional and just an Aussie way of speaking (it took my US beta readers a bit to get used to). I can’t say ‘the’ Aussie way, since we seem to differ even within the same state. Just think of us as a weird mix of British and US vernacular and colloquialisms, but with our own randomness thrown in. I still hope you enjoy it, though! Contains possible triggers.

Anne Neville
Author: Prof Michael Hicks
Publisher: The History Press
ISBN: 0752468871
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 248
Book Description
Anne Neville was queen to England's most notorious king, Richard III. She was immortalised by Shakespeare for the remarkable nature of her marriage, a union which brought together a sorrowing widow with her husband's murderer. Anne's misfortune did not end there. In addition to killing her first husband, Richard also helped kill her father, father-in-law and brother-in-law, imprisoned her mother, and was suspected of poisoning Anne herself. Dying before the age of thirty, Anne Neville packed into her short life incident enough for many adventurous careers, but was often, apparently, the passive instrument of others' evil intentions. This fascinating new biography seeks to tell the story of Anne's life in her own right, and uncovers the real wife of Richard III by charting the remarkable twists and turns of her fraught and ultimately tragic life.

Committed to Memory
Author: Cheryl Finley
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 0691241066
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 320
Book Description
How an eighteenth-century engraving of a slave ship became a cultural icon of Black resistance, identity, and remembrance One of the most iconic images of slavery is a schematic wood engraving depicting the human cargo hold of a slave ship. First published by British abolitionists in 1788, it exposed this widespread commercial practice for what it really was—shocking, immoral, barbaric, unimaginable. Printed as handbills and broadsides, the image Cheryl Finley has termed the "slave ship icon" was easily reproduced, and by the end of the eighteenth century it was circulating by the tens of thousands around the Atlantic rim. Committed to Memory provides the first in-depth look at how this artifact of the fight against slavery became an enduring symbol of Black resistance, identity, and remembrance. Finley traces how the slave ship icon became a powerful tool in the hands of British and American abolitionists, and how its radical potential was rediscovered in the twentieth century by Black artists, activists, writers, filmmakers, and curators. Finley offers provocative new insights into the works of Amiri Baraka, Romare Bearden, Betye Saar, and many others. She demonstrates how the icon was transformed into poetry, literature, visual art, sculpture, performance, and film—and became a medium through which diasporic Africans have reasserted their common identity and memorialized their ancestors. Beautifully illustrated, Committed to Memory features works from around the world, taking readers from the United States and England to West Africa and the Caribbean. It shows how contemporary Black artists and their allies have used this iconic eighteenth-century engraving to reflect on the trauma of slavery and come to terms with its legacy.
