Book Description
This book investigates the historical evolution, regional differences, and quantitative measurement on street interface, which forms the street space and plays a very important role in urban form. Empirical research reveals the street interface in Chinese cities are much more complicated than European and American cities. This book explores the reason and reveals the relationship between street interface and urban form in morphology. By constructing quantitative measurement method on street interface morphology, quantitative parameters can be used in urban planning guidelines in China. Both researchers and students working in architecture, urban design, urban planning and urban studies can benefit from this book.

Spanish Phonology and Morphology
Author: David Eddington
Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing
ISBN: 9027294844
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 216
Book Description
Unlike most monographs on Spanish phonology and morphology that approach these topics from a structuralist or generativist framework, this volume is written from a less traditional point of view. More specifically, it emphasizes quantitative evidence from sources such as usage-based studies, psycholinguistic experiments, corpus data, and computer simulations. Arguments are presented to demonstrate that these kinds of evidence are crucial for establishing theories of language that relate to the psychological mechanisms involved in producing and comprehending speech, in contrast to theories about abstract linguistic structure. A range of topics is covered including morphological parsing, nominalization, stress, syllable structure, diphthongization, gender, morphophonemic alternations, and epenthesis. An appendix is included that serves as a primer on quantitative linguistic research. It discusses how some of the cited experiments were carried out, provides an introduction to statistical analysis, and discusses tools that are available for conducting quantitative research on the Spanish language.

Quantitative Methods in Morphology / Quantitative Methoden in der Morphologie
Author: Ewald R. Weibel
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642501303
Category : Medical
Languages : de
Pages : 276
Book Description
Stereologic techniques begin to play an increasing role in biologic morphology, particularly there where correlation of structure and function on a quantitative basis is sought. These powerful methods have been in use for many years - partly even for many decades - in geology, mineralogy and metallurgy, while attempts to introduce them into histology have remained rather rare until a few years ago. In order to stimulate discussion among anatomists about stereo logic methods the International Society for Stereology, an interdisciplinary society, organized a Sym posium on Quantitative Methods in Morphology which took place on August 10, 1965 in the framework of the Eighth International Congress of Anatomists in Wiesbaden, Germany. The papers presented at this symposium are published in this volume in slightly extended form. Some of the papers of this volume are of rather specialized nature and presume a basic knowledge of stereology. The first chapter on general stereological principles has therefore been considerably extended and short introductory review paragraphs have been added to a few subsequent chapters to help those who are not yet familiar with this new field in understanding the more specialized original articles. Long discussion periods formed an essential part of the symposium. However, they were conducted very informally and hence it would not have been profitable to reproduce them in extenso, particularly since the major results of discussion have been incorporated by the authors into the expanded manuscripts presented here.

Morphology Methods
Author: Ricardo V. Lloyd
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN:
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 456
Book Description
This text explores the most significant aspects of sophisticated and recent cell biological techniques that are needed to keep up with research in morphology. Researchers in morphology will find many step-by-step protocols to conduct their work including state-of -- the -- art laser capture microdissection methods, real time PCR and advanced FISH techniques. The chapters include detailed protocols for setting up and performing these techniques. This book covers all of the major areas relevant to molecular morphology today. Potential pitfalls and anticipated problems are also discussed. Morphology Methods will prove essential to researchers interested in molecular morphology for the purpose of experiments, and for teaching graduate, or professional students wishing to keep up with the literature.

Author: G.E. Booij
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401125163
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 258
Book Description
MARK ARONOFF The articles included in this section represent recent research on morpholog ical classes which has been independently performed by a number of investi gators. This work was presented at a symposium that was organized as part of the 1990-1991 annual meeting of the Linguistic Society of America in Chicago in January 1991. Our aim in presenting this work is twofold: on the one hand, we would like to encourage others interested in morphology to pursue the types of research that we present. This is especially important in the study of morphological classes, which, while they are widespread among the languages of the world, are also highly diverse and often quite complex. On the other hand, we hope to convince researchers in adjacent areas to provide a place for autonomous morphology in their general picture of the workings of language and to pay closer attention to the intricacies of the interactionbetweenmorphologyand theseareas.

Histology Protocols

Book Description
Somuchofwhatweknowaboutthepathogenesisofhumandiseasehascomefromthe systematic and careful study of histological material. Indeed, every internal medicine discipline has its landmark papers describing the clinico-pathological correlations. However, increasingly, it is molecular and cellular biology that provides the necessary mechanistic insights. For many years, it was thought that the two skill sets were mutually exclusive, but we hope that this book shows that this is not necessarily so. Implicitinthescienceofhistologyisthepreservationandarchivingoftissue.PartIof the book concentrates on the preparation of tissue, providing an overview of fixation, embedding, and processing (Chapter 1), and in Chapters 2 and 3, the required techniques for the retrieval of RNA from histological sections. Both routine and specialist histological staining techniques are provided in Part II. These include pro- cols for immuno (Chapters 4–7), lectin (Chapter 8), and hybridization (Chapter 9) histochemistry, histologicalstaining (Chapters10and11),aswellasspecificmethods for the in situ identification of hypoxia (Chapter 12) and apoptosis (Chapter 13). Finally, Part III details advances in imaging (Chapters 14–16) and image analysis (Chapter 17). It is hoped that this volume will provide molecular biologists with the basic his- chemical techniques and histologists with the molecular techniques to realise the potential of their resource. We are indebted to the authors for their generosity in sharing these protocols.

Research Methods in Linguistics
Author: Robert J. Podesva
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1107653312
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 545
Book Description
A comprehensive guide to conducting research projects in linguistics, this book provides a complete training in state-of-the-art data collection, processing, and analysis techniques. The book follows the structure of a research project, guiding the reader through the steps involved in collecting and processing data, and providing a solid foundation for linguistic analysis. All major research methods are covered, each by a leading expert. Rather than focusing on narrow specializations, the text fosters interdisciplinarity, with many chapters focusing on shared methods such as sampling, experimental design, transcription and constructing an argument. Highly practical, the book offers helpful tips on how and where to get started, depending on the nature of the research question. The only book that covers the full range of methods used across the field, this student-friendly text is also a helpful reference source for the more experienced researcher and current practitioner.
