Quantum Effects In The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model - Proceedings Of The International Workshop
Author: Joan Sola
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814544965
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 466
Book Description
This volume constitutes the proceedings of the first conference on the specific subject of radiative corrections (quantum effects) to physical processes within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). While there have been many conferences covering general aspects of supersymmetry, this one brought together leading experts on phenomenological aspects of SUSY and focused on the search for indirect effects of supersymmetric particles. Participants discussed the status and perspectives of the MSSM from the viewpoint of present and future high precision experiments at LEP, Tevatron, LHC and at a future NLC.

Quantum Flavordynamics, Quantum Chromodynamics, and Unified Theories
Author: K.T. Mahanthappa
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461330998
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 500
Book Description
The Advanced Study Institute on Quantum Flavordynamics, Quantum Chromodynamics and Unified Theories was held on the campus th of the University of Colorado at Boulder from July 9 through July 27th of 1979. There has been a rapid progress in the understanding of weak, electromagnetic and strong interactions and their unification during the past few years. The purpose of the Institute was to have a group of lecturers active in these areas of research give a series of lectures on various aspects of these topics beginning at the elementary level and ending with the up-to-date developments. There were three lecturers, Professors S. Ellis, R. Field and C. H. Llewellyn Smith who covered the different but related aspects of Quantum Chromodynamics. Their lectures were well coordinated, but some overlap was inevitable. Dr. Buras gave two lectures on QCD corrections beyond the leading order. Professor D. Gross covered the nonperturbative aspects and a possible mechanism of quark confinement. At a more phenomenological level, Professor C. De Tar covered the bag models. The subject matter of electro weak interactions was covered by Professor G. Altarelli. Professor J. Wess gave six lectures on supersymmetry and supergravity. All these lectures with the exception of those of Professor D. Gross are incorporated in this volume. The contents of Professor Gross' lectures are available elsewhere and therefore only references and problems are included here. In addition to the above lectures, there were workshop-like discussion sessions.

CP Violation: From Quarks to Leptons
Author: M. Giorgi
Publisher: IOS Press
ISBN: 1614990190
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 613
Book Description
For a long time after the discovery in 1964, by Christenson, Cronin, Fitch and Turlay, that the long-lived neutral kaon decays both into three and into two pions, which has since been taken as proof of CP violation, successive new and more precise experiments confirmed the original evidence and provided results compatible with a phenomenological description confining the CP violation to the mixing between neutral kaons and antikaons. However the Standard Model, with three generations of quarks, linking as it does CP violation to the presence of a single non trivial phase in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix, implies that if CP violation exists at all, then it is a general property of weak interactions, appearing in transitions were amplitudes involving all three quark families interfere with each other, producing effects with a magnitude related to that of the CKM coefficients. This fact has stimulated an impressive amount of theoretical work leading in many cases to precise predictions. This publication reviews the field, from both the theoretical and experimental point of view, while planning for the forthcoming experimentation at LHC and considering possible new facilities for kaon, B meson and neutrino physics. Abstracted in Inspec

Structure of Nucleon Excited States from Lattice QCD
Author: Finn M. Stokes
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030257223
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 245
Book Description
Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) describes the interactions between elementary quarks and gluons as they compose the nucleons at the heart of atomic structure. The interactions give rise to complexity that can only be examined via numerical simulations on supercomputers. This work provides an introduction to the numerical simulations of lattice QCD and establishes new formalisms relevant to understanding the structure of nucleons and their excited states. The research opens with an examination of the non-trivial QCD vacuum and the emergence of “centre domains.” The focus then turns to establishing a novel Parity-Expanded Variational Analysis (PEVA) technique solving the important problem of isolating baryon states moving with finite momentum. This seminal work provides a foundation for future calculations of baryon properties. Implementation of the PEVA formalism discloses important systematic errors in conventional calculations and reveals the structure of nucleon excited states from the first principles of QCD for the first time.
