Ilis antiquarian tastes also led him early into the field of genealogy, and his interest in this field is made 11111nif'cst in his numerous contributions to the Pennsylvania Magazine of History, beginning with - its first issue in 1877; and also in his printed volume, Inscriptions in St. Peter's Churchyard, Philadelphia. He was prominent in the founding of this Society, and became Its first president, 11nd was active among those who founded the Colonial Society of this State, and the lines of work which these institutions have pursued since their organization were largely mapped out by him.
