Excerpt from Public Laws of the State of North Carolina, Passed by the General Assembly at the Session of 1865-'66, and 1861-'62-'63 and 1864: Together With Important Ordinances Passed by the Convention of 1866 Preamble. Whereas, The bonds issued under the said act since the twentieth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and sixty one, express on their face that they are payable in good and lawful 'money of the Confederate States whereby said bonds, held by said Company, being only a nominal price in market, although it was intended by the act aforesaid that they should be payable in specie, and they were accepted by said Company under the belief that they were payable in specie therefore, for the relief of said Company.
