Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1789237300
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 268
Book Description
Emotional, physical and social well-being describe human health from birth. Good health goes hand in hand with the ability to handle stress for the future. However, biological factors such as diet, life experiences such as drug abuse, bullying, burnout and social factors such as family and community support at the school stage tend to mold health problems, affecting academic achievements. This book is a compilation of current scientific information about the challenges that students, families and teachers face regarding health and academic achievements. Contributions also relate to how physical activity, psychosocial support and other interventions can be made to understand resilience and vulnerability to school desertion. This book will be of interest to readers from broad professional fields, non-specialist readers, and those involved in education policy.

Psychosocial Learning Behaviors
Author: Heidi Ann Frazier Rogers
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Academic achievement
Languages : en
Pages : 90
Book Description
This study analyzed the pre-existing data to measure the impact of an academic support program on conditionally admitted first-year students at a small, private, liberal arts college in the Midwest. The academic support program includes a two-credit course based on the components of the College Learning Effectiveness Inventory (CLEI). The CLEI is used as a tool in developing academic success goals in the conditionally admitted students and is taken twice during the academic year; once within the first month of school and once during the third month of the second semester. This instrument measures the psychosocial elements found to be influential in academic success in higher education through using six scales in which students self-report their learning behaviors. This research focused on analyzing the data from four of these scales: academic self-efficacy, organization and attention to study, stress and time press, and class communication. The impact of the academic support program was measured according to the growth of the four scales indicated. Correlations between the scales were also examined to determine for any positive relationships.
