Book Description
The majority of the larvae released in the top 10 m at the outer reaches and within the confines of Lobster Bay remain in the inshore region with the majority being advected to the St. [...] However, the fall-spring period represents the majority of the catches and the highest catch rates and the authors believed events in that season to be indicative of trends the fishery. [...] For example, no attempt was made to separate the catch rates of the various boats and crews, thereby confounding differences among the fishing powers of the boats with changes in the calculated catch rates of the fleet. [...] With respect to the analyses, the fact that no residual patterns were observed (a point stressed in the presentation) might only be a function of the large number of parameters in the analyses and not assurance of the appropriateness of the model to the data. [...] The shift in median size could result from a number of causes such as seasonal movement of animals through the grounds, change in size-related catchability due to the recent cold water conditions, a recruitment pulse increasing the numbers in the smaller sizes (as observed in the Bay of Fundy fishery), or subtle changes in fishing practices, areas and gear.

Book Description
These proceedings report on meetings held to consider issues relating to lobster resources in east coast Lobster Fishing Areas 33 to 41. The first section summarizes a workshop to develop criteria & data requirements for defining geographic assessment & management units, and to develop a modelling framework for assessing the impact of diverse fisheries within these units. This is followed by reviews of working papers on such topics as lobster stock structure, fishing effort data quality, interaction of catch rates & temperature, lobster geographic distribution, catch rates, and lobster population. The final section summarizes comments of external reviewers on spatial analysis of the fishery, database development, indices of stock status, experimentation, and modelling.

Book Description
"A Maritimes Region Science Regional Advisory Process (RAP) was conducted on July 21-22, 2011 at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to conduct an assessment for Lobster Fishing Areas (LFA) 27-33. Participation in this meeting included Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), Province of Nova Scotia, the fishing industry, and aboriginal communities. The results of this meeting formed the basis for science advice to fishery managers on LFA 27-33 lobster. Three DFO Science Research Documents and a Science Advisory Report are to be produced as a result of this meeting."--Document.
