Book Description
This Symposium continues the ongoing MRS series devoted to the structure and dynamics of disordered materials. It includes sections dedicated to specific classes of disordered materials of particular current interest, including porous media, foams, colloids, and glasses. Also, the structures of chemically inhomogeneous systems in which chemical reactions are taking place, and pattern formation in solidifying alloys are each the subject of a section. Finally, a variety of disordered materials of interest to materials science are included. p10.

Book Description
This book focuses on the fractal aspects of materials and disordered systems. Disorder plays a critical role in many naturally occurring and manufactured materials, both at the microscopic level (e.g., glasses) and the macroscopic level (e.g., foams, dendritic alloys, porous rock). The book addresses the dynamical processes involved in the formation and characterization of a wide range of disordered materials. Topics include: porous media; colloids; chemical reactions; dynamical aspects of the liquid-glass transition; disordered materials and surfaces and scaling and nanostructures.

Book Description
The presentations included in this proceedings volume attest to the fact that research involving electrical, optical, and magnetic properties of organic solid-state materials continues to grow both in scope and technological importance. The book emphasizes new concepts and techniques in the development of high-technology materials, and is therefore of great relevance to both pure and applied research being conducted in academic, industrial and government laboratories. Topics include: organic light-emitting materials and devices; photonic materials and devices; magnetic properties and liquid-crystal displays; molecular engineering of organic solid-state materials; and organic conducting polymers.

Book Description
Energetic materials are distinguished from other materials primarily by the fact that rapid, exothermic reactions can be induced with the release of gaseous products. This complex phenomenon cuts across many boundaries of chemistry (synthesis, kinetics, thermodynamics, spectroscopy, quantum and molecular dynamics calculations, etc.) and engineering physics (shock and detonation waves, hydrodynamics, fracture and solid mechanics, defects, etc.). This volume offers the latest chemistry advancements in understanding the complex dynamic processes in these materials in the condensed phase. The focus is on fundamental research into the rates and pathways of rapid exothermic reactions, product specification, diagnostic methods, molecular processes of energy transfer, and molecular processes at extreme pressure and temperature. Many novel materials are discussed.

Book Description
This symposium, the third held as pant of the MRS Fall Meetings series, touched on a wide range of topics covering static and dynamic properties of small confining systems: probing of confined systems, structure and dynamics of liquids at interfaces, nanorheology, adsorption, diffusion in pores, and reactions. Panticipants from various disciplines shared different points of view on the questions of how ultrasmall geometries can force a system to behave in ways significantly different than its behavior in the bulk, how this difference affects molecular properties, and how it is probed. The contributions in the book reflect the broad range of topics discussed at the meeting, all related to dynamics in small confining systems. We hope that the interdisciplinaty nature of the book and the meeting will help to bridge the gap among the different approaches and methods presented. The papers appear in the book in the order of their presentation during the symposium, which was organized in sessions entitled: Probing Confined Systems; Structure and Dynamics of Thin Films; Nanorheology; Diffusion in Porous Systems; Adsorption and Phase Transitions; and Reaction Dynamics. (MM).
