Book Description
Aigae Abstracts is the first in aseries of bibliographies on water re sources and pollution published by IFI/Plenum Data Corporation in cooperation with the Water Resources Scientific Information Center (WRSIC). It is produced wholly from the information base compris ing material abstracted and indexed for Selected Water Resources Abstracts. The bibliography is divided into volumes according to the publication dates of the source documents. Volume 1 contains 569 abstracts cov ering publication dates up to and including 1969; Volume 2 contains 730 abstracts covering the years 1970 to 1972. The material included in this bibliography represents computer selections based on the presence of a form of the word "alga" somewhere in the referenced citation. Substantively, the material typifies WRSIC's "centers of com petence" approach to information support of the Office of Water Re sources Research (OWRR) of the Department of the Interior. Most of the references in this bibliography are the work of the center of competence on eutrophication at the University of Wisconsin. The indexes refer to the WRSIC accession number, which follows each abstract. The Significant Descriptor Index is made up of a fraction of the total descriptors and identifiers by which each paper has been indexed. It represents weighted terms that best describe the informa tion content; this status is indicated by the asterisks which precede them. The General Index includes all the remaining descriptors and identifiers by which each paper in this bibliography has been indexed.

Book Description
This book provides an overview of the major chemical aspects of pesticides giving detailed descriptions of the various groups of pesticides in current use - insecticides, acaricides, nematocides, rodenticides, fungicides and herbicides. The organic syntheses are discussed in detail, as are the biochemical aspects of the effectiveness and mechanisms of action of these chemical agents. The ecological aspects of the use of pesticides - nowadays an important consideration - are also discussed. The main trends of development in the field are also dealt with, e.g. the development of insecticides which present less of a threat to human beings and animals than the ones presently used, whose point of attack is the nervous system. Research is now concentrated on developing chemical compounds which affect the biochemistry or the special behavioural features of insects, instead of acting upon their nervous system. Newly discovered chemicals with selective action which are still in the developmental and experimentational stages are also described.Because of its comprehensive character, the book will be a useful source of information to those engaged in practical work in this field, as well as to researchers in the agricultural sciences.

Book Description
This revision of the highly acclaimed Hayes' Handbook of Pesticide Toxicology is an in-depth, scientific sourcebook concerning use, properties, effects, and regulation of pesticides. This edition is a comprehensive examination by international experts from academia, government research, and the private sector of critical issues related to the need, use, and nature of chemicals used in modern pest management. This two-volume set contains up-to-date information on a broad range of topics which establishes context of pesticide use and outlines how they are scientifically evaluated. Experts from a variety of disciplines contribute to this work. Some provide a fresh look at existing information, and others look ahead at issues that are central to understanding pesticide use and toxicology in modern integrated pest management. Establishes a context for evaluation of pesticide use in agriculture, residential pest control and public health described Important discussion of strategies for pesticide risk assessment All major classes of pesticide considered Different routes of exposure critically evaluated Current regulatory issues defined Emerging issues concern topics of special relevance in the future Agents reviewed by experts from academia, government research, and the private sector

Book Description
Plant Pathology has an important role to play in devising strategies suitable for sustainable agriculture. Some of the important steps to be taken by plant pathologists include the development of eco-friendly mechanisms of disease control through the use of biological resources, enhancing the resistant mechanisms of the plant through molecular means as well as studies on the interactions of biotic and abiotic stressors. The diversity of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms is far more than what we have found out till date and the function of these important microbes in agro-ecosystems is also equally diverse. The ability of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria, actinomycetes, plant growth promoting fungi, mycorrhiza, to influence plant growth depends upon the diverse mechanisms like phosphate solubilization, biological nitrogen fixation, phytohormone production, siderophore production, biological control of plant pathogens and direct or indirect induction of disease resistance. Application of these beneficial microorganisms in enriching soil and enhancing crop production will not only change the scenario of using harmful chemical fertilizers but will also open up new dimensions for utilizing microbial resources for sustainable agricultural practices. The present review covers a wide spectrum of articles which are pertinent in the present day context and gives an indication to readers of the role of plant pathology in the current agricultural scenario.
