Book Description
Interpreting high angles of attack as those associated with stall and post-stall behaviour, the report reviews both aerodynamic and dynamic aspects. Dynamic considerations include stability and control response, and pre-stall and post-stall behaviour. Aerodynamic considerations range over a wide field covering two-dimensional stall characteristics, finite wing stall characteristics, including the effects of stall control devices, downwash at high angles, aircraft configuration force and moment characteristics, and aerodynamic derivative characteristics. Unsteady effects, Mach number effects, and propeller slipstream effects are included. (Author).

Book Description
The second edition of Flight Stability and Automatic Control presents an organized introduction to the useful and relevant topics necessary for a flight stability and controls course. Not only is this text presented at the appropriate mathematical level, it also features standard terminology and nomenclature, along with expanded coverage of classical control theory, autopilot designs, and modern control theory. Through the use of extensive examples, problems, and historical notes, author Robert Nelson develops a concise and vital text for aircraft flight stability and control or flight dynamics courses.

Book Description
Aircraft dynamic behavior at high angles-of-attack is highly non-linear and, in the past, there has been a lack of suitable techniques for analyzing the global behavior of nonlinear systems. This report describes a new approach based on Bifurcation Analysis and Catastrophe Theory Methodology (BACTM). The approach has been applied to specific jump, hysteresis and limit cycle phenomena such as roll-coupling, pitch-up, wing rock, buffeting, departure and divergence. Three different aircraft have been considered for comparison purposes, and it has been shown how different types of instabilities and families of limit cycles arise as the control variables are varied. A complete representation of the aircraft equilibrium and bifurcation surfaces is given in an eight dimensional space consisting of roll rate, pitch rate, yaw rate, angle-of-attack, sideslip angle, elevator, aileron and rudder deflections. Two dimensional projections of the equilibrium and bifurcation surfaces provide pictorial representations of the aircraft global stability and control behavior at high angles-of-attack. The use of BACTM for spin entry, spin prevention, stability augmentation at high angles-of-attack and nonlinear system identification are also considered. (Author).

Book Description
Flight Dynamics takes a new approach to the science and mathematics of aircraft flight, unifying principles of aeronautics with contemporary systems analysis. While presenting traditional material that is critical to understanding aircraft motions, it does so in the context of modern computational tools and multivariable methods. Robert Stengel devotes particular attention to models and techniques that are appropriate for analysis, simulation, evaluation of flying qualities, and control system design. He establishes bridges to classical analysis and results, and explores new territory that was treated only inferentially in earlier books. This book combines a highly accessible style of presentation with contents that will appeal to graduate students and to professionals already familiar with basic flight dynamics. Dynamic analysis has changed dramatically in recent decades, with the introduction of powerful personal computers and scientific programming languages. Analysis programs have become so pervasive that it can be assumed that all students and practicing engineers working on aircraft flight dynamics have access to them. Therefore, this book presents the principles, derivations, and equations of flight dynamics with frequent reference to MATLAB functions and examples. By using common notation and not assuming a strong background in aeronautics, Flight Dynamics will engage a wide variety of readers. Introductions to aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, flying qualities, flight control, and the atmospheric and gravitational environment accompany the development of the aircraft's dynamic equations.

Book Description
"This report consists of lecture notes of an AGARD Fluid Dynamics Panel Special Course. These notes provide the latest information on the development and use of dynamic experiments in wind tunnels from several of the NATO nations. They address current oscillatory and rotary test techniques, experimental results for typical configurations, and the use of these data for flight mechanics applications. Subject included are: dynamic lift, wing rock, fluid dynamics of rotary flows, mathematical modelling, non-linear data representation, vortex manipulation for control enhancement, and correlations of predictions based on rotary and oscillatory wind-tunnel and flight-test results. The complete course notes are contained in two volumes. The main part of the notes is contained in AGARD Advisory Report 265 (ADA235179). The present volume includes papers on: Unsteady aerodynamics of slender wings; Dynamic stall effects and applications to high performance aircraft; Oscillatory test techniques; Large amplitude oscillations; Oscillatory data for typical configurations; and Forebody vortex control."--Stinet.

Book Description
Adverse aircraft-pilot coupling (APC) events include a broad set of undesirable and sometimes hazardous phenomena that originate in anomalous interactions between pilots and aircraft. As civil and military aircraft technologies advance, interactions between pilots and aircraft are becoming more complex. Recent accidents and other incidents have been attributed to adverse APC in military aircraft. In addition, APC has been implicated in some civilian incidents. This book evaluates the current state of knowledge about adverse APC and processes that may be used to eliminate it from military and commercial aircraft. It was written for technical, government, and administrative decisionmakers and their technical and administrative support staffs; key technical managers in the aircraft manufacturing and operational industries; stability and control engineers; aircraft flight control system designers; research specialists in flight control, flying qualities, human factors; and technically knowledgeable lay readers.
