Prince Charlie, the Young Chevalier (Classic Reprint)

Book Description
Excerpt from Prince Charlie, the Young Chevalier The fortunes of Prince Charles Edward Stuart and his friends have been often narrated. And yet, absorbing as is the interest, and striking as are the moral lessons with which this fragment of our English history abounds, I am not aware that it has ever before, in a separate form, been specially brought before young people. Sir Walter Scott's labours were equally bestowed upon the two insurrections of 1715 and 1745. A narrative in which the latter shall be the principal object, and whose facts are drawn from various records, contemporaneous and otherwise, while their treatment is original, and expressly designed for the young folks, will not, therefore, I hope, be deemed superfluous. All history is for our teaching. Hence are duly rehearsed in our ears the sacred records of God's dealings with the elder world, as shown in their history. The '45

Publisher: Orion
ISBN: 9780753817797
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 640
Book Description
Written by the world's greatest authority on 18th century warfare, this fast-paced, exciting narrative will completely revise popular opinion about " Bonnie Prince" Charlie, the Duke of Cumberland (" The Butcher" ), and the other major players in the Scottish uprising of 1745. Christopher Duffy's original research reveals evidence of a wider plot against the Hanoverians and more support for the risings in Scotland, than had been suspected before. Filled with maps and a guide to the key sites, it provides an eye-opening perspective.
