El reciente descubrimiento de casi dos cientos precintos contemporáneos a la conquista de la Península Ibérica y del periodo de los primeros gobernadores de al-Andalus constituye un hecho de una importancia primordial y el reflejo de toda una transición entre el dominio visigodo y el establecimiento de un poder arabo-islámico. Confirmando el testimonio de autores árabes más tardíos y de la Crónica mozárabe, estos pequeños objetos con caracteres cúficos vienen a confirmar de forma irrefutable que «los árabes sí invadieron España» (Pierre Guichard). Sus leyendas muestran que la implantación de un nuevo poder conduce al inmediato establecimiento de una administración y de un sistema fiscal capaces de extraer riqueza, al tiempo que ponen de manifiesto la magnitud del botín que logran acumular los conquistadores. Además de nombres de diversas ciudades y de varios de los primeros gobernadores de al-Andalus, como al-Ḥurr o al-Samḥ, estos objetos son un indicio de la actitud de los contingentes dependientes de los califas de Damasco con respecto a las poblaciones derrotadas o sometidas. Muchos de ellos parecen evidenciar que, en las poblaciones de la Narbonense, hubo una resistencia más tenaz. Por lo tanto, como destacaba recientemente Alejandro García Sanjuán, «se trata de la aportación empírica más importante al conocimiento de la conquista musulmana que se ha producido desde el siglo XIX».
