If possible, start the new machine on a road or in a pasture before going into the grain field. Use plenty of kerosene and run the ma chine empty for about five minutes, taking notice that every duct to bear ings and every oil hole is open. Then apply lubricating oil. When you are ready to enter the grain with a new machine, raise the machine well up, tilt the platform forward; Open the throat of the machine by throwing the butt adjuster forward and start in with about one-half of a full swath. After five minutes work the machine is ready for maximum results. If compelled to make a full swath at the start, cut the grain extra high. Never change the adjustment of a new binder head before going into the field. It may miss a few bundles at first, but do not adjust.
