Book Description
The report on antenna array pattern synthesis deals with the approximation of power patterns rather than the usual problem of approximating field patterns. After a qualitative comparison of the different characteristics an optimum approximation is formulated in general terms. The possibility of finding an exact 'equal ripple' solution is discussed, and an approximate 'equal ripple' solution is offered as an approach to this as yet unsolved mathematical problem. (Author).

Book Description
Featuring interiors by today's top designers, The Power of Pattern shows how wallpaper and fabric designs can be used to elevate and personalize every room. Both a beautiful interiors book and a resource guide, it is the only patterns book on the market to feature such a wide range of work and diversity of styles. Best-selling interiors author Susanna Salk turns her focus to patterns, celebrating their versatility and creative possibilities, from a dash of colorful pattern in the entryway to the whimsy of a uniquely upholstered chair in the dining room or a luxuriously textured bedroom curtain. A practical primer on the many motifs available--Nature, Animal, Floral, Ikat, Chinoiserie, Stripes, and Toile are some of the chapters--this volume presents myriad versions of each, with inspiring examples of how to decorate with them. Salk also provides tips on how to use pattern in a particular space--for example, stripes create the illusion of a bigger room, and floral patterns look modern and bold (not fussy) when used on a big scale in bright colors. Presenting rooms by design stars such as Alessandra Branca, Bunny Williams, John Derian, and India Hicks, among others, The Power of Pattern teaches you how to mix and match to make your house look effortlessly decorated. And Salk's encouraging design tips give you inspirational ideas and practical tips, opening up a world of decorating creativity.

Book Description
The main purpose of the report is to establish certain structural properties of a peculiar class of Plane Wave Spectra (PWS) representing an aperture field (or, equivalently of radiation patterns) which make the aperture reactive power equal to zero. To achieve this objective the entire question of the representation of an aperture field through a PWS is reexamined from a novel viewpoint. The Fourier transform (FT) of the transverse electric field on the aperture is considered as a two-dimensional vector field on the wavenumber plane, represented through two scalar functions, which are its coordinates in a chosen vector basis (Section 3). The choice of the latter has an important physical significance since it corresponds to the decomposition of the PWS into two components having differently polarized radiation patterns and different reactive properties. In Section 4, it is shown that the conductance and the susceptance of an aperture can be expressed as integrals (extended over the visible and invisible space) of two quadratic forms (whose explicit expressions depend upon the basis chosen to represent the PWS).

Book Description
Taylor's Power Law: Order and Pattern in Nature is a broad synthesis of this ubiquitous property of natural and man-made phenomena. This stimulating and approachable work surveys the biological and non-biological empirical data, describes the statistical uses of Taylor’s power law (TPL) and its relationship to statistical distributions, exposes the mathematical connections to other power laws, covers the competing explanatory models; and develops an argument for TPL's genesis. Taylor’s power law relates the variability of a process or population to its average value. It was first described in relation to insect populations and then more broadly to other animal and plant populations. Subsequently it has been recognized in microbiology, genetics, economics, astronomy, physics, and computer science, and it is thought to be one of the few general laws in ecology where it is routinely used to describe the spatial and temporal distributions of populations. Biologists who know the law as Taylor's power law and physical scientists who know it as fluctuation scaling will be interested in the bigger picture on this fascinating subject. As the relationship between variance and mean is found in so wide a range of disciplines, it seems possible it is a deep property of number, not just a phenomenon in ecology as was thought originally. Although theories abound that purport to explain or predict TPL, none is entirely satisfactory either because it fails to be very predictive, or it does not account for all the available empirical data. To uncover such a property requires a synthesis across disciplines, an acute need that is approached by this exciting work. Provides a single reference describing the properties, scope, and limitations of Taylor’s power law Reports the empirical, analytical, and theoretical work without opinion and ends with a critique of the work in order to develop a synthesis Collects together thoughts and suggestions of the hundreds who have written and speculated about Taylor’s power law in order to review examples (and counter-examples), as well as examine the various models developed to account for it

Book Description
Solar Power Generation Problems, Solutions, and Monitoring is a valuable resource for researchers, professionals and graduate students interested in solar power system design. Written to serve as a pragmatic resource for solar photovoltaic power systems financing, it outlines real-life, straightforward design methodology. Using numerous examples, illustrations and an easy to follow design methodology, Peter Gevorkian discusses some of the most significant issues that concern solar power generation including: power output; energy monitoring and energy output enhancement; fault detection; fire and life safety hazard mitigation; and detailed hardware, firmware and software analytic solutions required to resolve solar power technology shortcomings. This essential reference also highlights the significant issues associated with large scale solar photovoltaic and solar power generation technology covering design, construction, deployment and fault detection monitoring as well as life safety hazards.
