Positive 1D and 2D Systems
Author: Tadeusz Kaczorek
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9781852335083
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 450
Book Description
This text is devoted to the positive multivariable 1D and 2D linear, time-invariant, finite-dimensional system. The book is based on the author's lectures for Ph.D. students, delivered at Warsaw University of Technology in the academic year 1999/2000. The book consists of two parts; the first part is devoted to the 1D positive linear systems and the second to the 2D positive linear systems described by the Rosser model and the Fornasini-Marchesini models. Definitions, basic properties and theorems concerning positive matrices and graphs are presented; the externally and internally positive linear continuous-time and discrete-time linear systems are considered; and the reachability, controlability and observability of positive linear systems are discussed. The realisation problem for positive 1D and 2D systems is also considered, and the 2D models of externally and internally positive and their properties and controllability and minimum energy control of positive 2D systems are investigated.

Positive Linear Systems
Author: Lorenzo Farina
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 111803127X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 322
Book Description
A complete study on an important class of linear dynamicalsystems-positive linear systems One of the most often-encountered systems in nearly all areas ofscience and technology, positive linear systems is a specific butremarkable and fascinating class. Renowned scientists LorenzoFarina and Sergio Rinaldi introduce readers to the world ofpositive linear systems in their rigorous but highly accessiblebook, rich in applications, examples, and figures. This professional reference is divided into three main parts: Thefirst part contains the definitions and basic properties ofpositive linear systems. The second part, following the theoreticalexposition, reports the main conceptual results, consideringapplicable examples taken from a number of widely used models. Thethird part is devoted to the study of some classes of positivelinear systems of particular relevance in applications (such as theLeontief model, the Leslie model, the Markov chains, thecompartmental systems, and the queueing systems). Readers familiarwith linear algebra and linear systems theory will appreciate theway arguments are treated and presented. Extraordinarily comprehensive, Positive Linear Systemsfeatures: * Applications from a variety of backgrounds including modeling, control engineering, computer science, demography, economics, bioengineering, chemistry, and ecology * References and annotated bibliographies throughout the book * Two appendices concerning linear algebra and linear systemstheory for readers unfamiliar with the mathematics used Farina and Rinaldi make no effort to hide their enthusiasm for thetopics presented, making Positive Linear Systems: Theory andApplications an indispensable resource for researchers andprofessionals in a broad range of fields.

Positive Systems: Theory and Applications
Author: Luca Benvenuti
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783540403425
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 428
Book Description
The proceedings of the First Multidisciplinary International Symposium on Positive Systems Theory and Applications (POSTA 2003) held in Rome, Italy, August 28-30, 2003. Positive Systems are systems in which the relevant variables assume nonnegative values. These systems are quite common in applications where variables represent positive quantities such as populations, goods, money, time, data packets flowing in a network, densities of chemical species, probabilities, etc. The aim of the symposium was to join together researchers working in the different areas related to positive systems such as telecommunications, economy, biomedicine, chemistry and physics in order to provide a multidisciplinary forum where they have the opportunity to exchange ideas and compare results in a unifying framework.

Positive Feedback in Natural Systems
Author: Donald L. DeAngelis
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642826253
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 292
Book Description
Cybernetics, a science concerned with understanding how systems are regulated, has reflected the preoccupations of the century in which it was born. Regulation is important in twentieth century society, where both machines and social organizations are complex. Cybernetics focused on and became primarily associated with the homeostasis or stability of system behavior and with the negative feedbacks that stabilize systems. It paid less attention to the processes opposite to negative feedback, the positive feedback processes that act to change systems. We attempt to redress the balance here by illustrating the enormous importance of positive feedbacks in natural systems. In an article in the American Scientist in 1963, Maruyama called for increased attention to this topic, noting that processes of change could occur when a "deviation in anyone component of the system caused deviations in other components that acted back on the first component to reinforce of amplify the initial deviation." The deviation amplification is the result of positive feedback among system components. Maruyama demonstrated by numerous examples that the neglect of such processes was unjustified and suggested that a new branch of cybernetics, "the second cybernetics," be devoted to their study.

Systems Leadership
Author: Ian Macdonald
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351713507
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 713
Book Description
The new edition of this influential and bestselling book is concerned with how people come together to achieve a productive purpose. Survival and success in business and social terms have always depended upon our ability to form and sustain social organisations. People have a deep need to be creative and to belong. By creating positive organisations we can fulfil these needs and build a worthwhile society. One of the failures of organisations is precisely the lack of efficient and effective social organisation, which is what this whole book is about. Poor social organisation, including poor leadership, are major drivers of poor productivity and lead people to give up or retreat into a minimalist approach of just doing what is needed to get by and survive. The authors provide a language for developing, discussing, thinking and working with propositions about organisations and management. They do not tell you what decision to make but rather present tools to help you consider, analyse and predict the consequences of your decisions. This new edition is much broader in its application areas – public, private and not-for-profit sectors. It contains new models and propositions with regard to types of social organisation, domains of work and the nature and use of authority. It contains a range of new case studies, and throughout looks at how these ideas can be used to achieve an organisation’s purpose while encouraging creative working. It is not a book about fads or fashion but an integrated approach that offers the user the benefit of foresight.
