Book Description
"Positive Spirituality in Health Care" offers a fresh, holistic, and practical framework for the integration of spirituality in health care. Dr. Craigie proposes that excellent spiritual care arises from three arenas: the personal groundedness and spiritual well-being of clinicians, the clinical encouragement of patients' spiritual resources, and the organizational cultivation of spirited leadership and "soul." In an approachable and conversational tone, he presents case examples, interview transcripts, research perspectives, and pragmatic strategies that will enable readers to refine their skills in each of these three arenas. "Positive Spirituality in Health Care" will be a source of affirmation, refreshment, inspiration, and practical tools for all clinicians and health care leaders who are passionate about supporting patients' journeys toward healing and wholeness.

Book Description
Many Americans believe that people who lack health insurance somehow get the care they really need. Care Without Coverage examines the real consequences for adults who lack health insurance. The study presents findings in the areas of prevention and screening, cancer, chronic illness, hospital-based care, and general health status. The committee looked at the consequences of being uninsured for people suffering from cancer, diabetes, HIV infection and AIDS, heart and kidney disease, mental illness, traumatic injuries, and heart attacks. It focused on the roughly 30 million-one in seven-working-age Americans without health insurance. This group does not include the population over 65 that is covered by Medicare or the nearly 10 million children who are uninsured in this country. The main findings of the report are that working-age Americans without health insurance are more likely to receive too little medical care and receive it too late; be sicker and die sooner; and receive poorer care when they are in the hospital, even for acute situations like a motor vehicle crash.

Book Description
Why looking up matters A positive attitude is important, but until now we didn’t know how important. In Up, a practicing physician and NIH-funded researcher draws on her research and experience to show that our outlook on life— our unique patterns of thinking and feeling about ourselves, others, and the world—may be the key to how well and how fast we age. From wrinkles to cognitive decline, our outlook affects our health at every level. Using the framework of outlook GPS, Up illustrates how we can gauge our current attitude latitude and move to healthier ground. Tindle brings a fresh eye to attitudinal traits such as optimism, noting that it has many faces, including the face of her own struggling optimism. Using the 7 Steps of Attitudinal Change that she applies to her own patients, Tindle offers us a path toward healthy aging. Prescriptive and accessible, Up puts forward a paradigm shift in how we age and treat disease, giving even the most struggling optimists a chance for hope. It will appeal to readers of The Longevity Project by Howard S. Friedman and Leslie R. Martin as well as The Blue Zones by Dan Buettner.

Book Description
Adolescence is a critical growth period in which youth develop essential skills that prepare them for adulthood. Prevention and intervention programs are designed to meet the needs of adolescents who require additional support and promote healthy behaviors and outcomes. To ensure the success of these efforts, it is essential that they include reliably identifiable techniques, strategies, or practices that have been proven effective. Promoting Positive Adolescent Health Behaviors and Outcomes: Thriving in the 21st Century identifies key program factors that can improve health outcomes related to adolescent behavior and provides evidence-based recommendations toward effective implementation of federal programming initiatives. This study explores normative adolescent development, the current landscape of adolescent risk behavior, core components of effective programs focused on optimal health, and recommendations for research, programs, and policies.

Book Description
In this one-of-a-kind book and guide, the author redefines health care as the practice of nourishing ourselves to support a lifelong partnership with our body. Guiding us from the human cell to the kitchen and beyond, the author explores every intersection where the body meets food. We are reminded that only nourishing food is capable of powering our metabolism, our brains, and our muscles. With the “Virtual Kitchen Tour”—a unique and practical exercise—we are invited to reevaluate our household food bank. Living in the context of relationships, family, friends, schools, senior centers, the workplace, and the community, all are recognized and respected participants in the lifestyle changes one will undertake. There is also a close look at how a western lifestyle contributes to chronic illness and how we can amend this. And through actual case studies we are invited to reflect on our own life ways.
