The Linear Polarization of Radio Sources at 6 Cm Wavelength
Author: F. F. Gardner
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 18
Book Description
Linear polarization measurements at 6 cm wavelength with the Parkes 210 ft telescope are given for 706 sources. Comparison of polarization parameters and flux densities with other published data is made. For the variable sources it is found that changes in polarized flux and position angle can accompany changes in intensity. (Author).

Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts
Author: S. Böhme
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662123347
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 787
Book Description
Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts, which has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969, is devoted to the recording, summarizing and indexing of astronomical publications throughout the world. It is prepared under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union (according to a resolution adopted at the 14th General Assembly in 1970). Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documenta tion of literature in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Every effort will be made to ensure that the average time interval between the date of receipt of the original literature and publication of the abstracts will not exceed eight months. This time interval is near to that achieved by monthly abstracting journals, compared to which our system of accumu lating abstracts for about six months offers the advantage of greater convenience for the user. Volume 31 contains literature published in 1982 and received before July 15, 1982; some older literature which was received late and which is not recorded in earlier volumes is also included. We acknowledge with thanks contributions to this volume by Dr. J. Bouska, Prague, who surveyed journals and publications in Czech and supplied us with abstracts in English .

The Connection Between Linear Polarization and Galactic Latitude of Discrete Radio Sources
Author: P. Maltby
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 8
Book Description
The degree of linear polarization at a wavelength of about 21 cm is considered for 166 presumably extragalactic radio sources. A connection between degree of linear polarization and galactic latitude is found; low-latitude sources tend to show a lwer degree of polarization than high-latitude sources. It is found that the correlation between degree of polarizatin and galactic latitude is weaker at a wavelength equal to 10 cm than at 21 cm. This result is derived from a sample of 46 sources observed at both wavelengths. Possible interpretations of the correlation found at 21 cm are discussed. (Author).

Preliminary Measurements on the Distribution of Linear Polarization Over Eight Radio Sources
Author: D. Morris
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 15
Book Description
The feasibility of the determination of polarization distributions over radio sources by variable spacing interference polarimetry was tested. The results of preliminary measurements for eight strong sources are presented. The polarized region in the Crab Nebula at 10.6-cm wavelength is roughly one-half the diameter of the unpolarized source. Both components of the central source in Centaurus A are found to be linearly polarized, but with their planes of polarization at 44 degrees to each other. The observations on five other double sources, 3C 270, Pictor A, Hercules A, 3C 353 and Cygnus A show evidence of two or more polarized regions on each source with different preferred directions. M87, the galaxy with the optically polarized 'jet', seems to have a polarized halo at 21 cm whereas earlier measurements at the same wavelength had indicated that the core was essentially unpolarized. (Author).
