Book Description
Clarie doesn't have to sleep with Liam for a grade. But, hot professor, remote cabin... Suddenly it doesn't seem like such a bad idea. Liam Conner was once a literary darling, but now he's just trying to drink himself to death in the seclusion of his mountain cabin. Not much interested in sex after the accident that killed his wife and ended his career, his libido kicks into full gear when a beautiful blonde shows up in the middle of a snowstorm. Grad student Clarie Lewis is out to nab an interview with the reclusive subject of her thesis. When Liam throws political correctness to the wind and offers to give her an interview if she'll sleep with him, he's not sure whether he's trying to drive her back out into the snow or if he really just wants to sleep with her. Both, probably. Clarie doesn't have to sleep with Liam, or anybody else, for a grade. But suddenly she finds herself alone in a remote cabin with a man whose prose she's been analyzing and appreciating for as long as she can remember. The fact that he's as gorgeous as sin in person doesn't hurt, either. Suddenly, it doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

Book Description
Note 6th June 2021 - Still the same book, just a new Kindle cover *This is book one of three in the two souls series. Book 2 Two healing souls, coming August 23rd 2021 and Book three will be released in 2022* I have been a keeper of many secrets since I was old enough to know what secrets were. No one knew the truth, knew the real me and what goes on behind closed doors. No one knows about the abuse I suffer at the hands of my father. No one knows about the cuts and scars I hide from the world. Why? Because I choose for it to be that way. To the outside world, I am your average teenager, but in reality, all I am is a broken girl with no one to love her, to see the real sadness in my eyes. Until him. Ryland, the new boy in town, the stranger that sees right through me from the moment we meet. We are drawn to each other like a moth to a flame, but the more I get to know him, the more I see I am not the only one fighting demons. He has his own. To start with, he was nothing but a pain in my ass, but day by day, we grow closer and become something that the other didn't realise we needed. A bond develops between us that becomes unbreakable. I don't think either of us realised that when two broken souls come together, it would be the thing that gets us both on the road to healing. He shows me love, something I haven't felt since my mum was still alive, something my father tried to make me believe that I didn't deserve. I soon learn that just because my father once broke me, it doesn't mean I need to stay that way. I laughed when someone once told me that love makes everything better, but I soon realise those words are valid. Life can change in an instant. It can change when you least expect it, and sometimes it is for the best. No matter what happens in the past, it doesn't need to define you. WARNINGS: This book mentions self-harm and rape, but neither of these things happens in this book. It is something that is said. There is also Physical abuse, which does happen in this book, but not often and not in too much detail.

An Apprenticeship or The Book of Pleasures
Author: Clarice Lispector
Publisher: New Directions Publishing
ISBN: 0811230678
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 150
Book Description
Now in paperback, a romantic love story by the great Brazilian writer Lóri, a primary school teacher, is isolated and nervous, comfortable with children but unable to connect to adults. When she meets Ulisses, a professor of philosophy, an opportunity opens: a chance to escape the shipwreck of introspection and embrace the love, including the sexual love, of a man. Her attempt, as Sheila Heti writes in her afterword, is not only “to love and to be loved,” but also “to be worthy of life itself.” Published in 1968, An Apprenticeship is Clarice Lispector’s attempt to reinvent herself following the exhausting effort of her metaphysical masterpiece The Passion According to G. H. Here, in this unconventional love story, she explores the ways in which people try to bridge the gaps between them, and the result, unusual in her work, surprised many readers and became a bestseller. Some appreciated its accessibility; others denounced it as sexist or superficial. To both admirers and critics, the olympian Clarice gave a typically elliptical answer: “I humanized myself,” she said. “The book reflects that.”

Sex, Culture, and Justice
Author: Clare Chambers
Publisher: Penn State Press
ISBN: 0271045949
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 306
Book Description
Autonomy is fundamental to liberalism. But autonomous individuals often choose to do things that harm themselves or undermine their equality. In particular, women often choose to participate in practices of sexual inequality&—cosmetic surgery, gendered patterns of work and childcare, makeup, restrictive clothing, or the sexual subordination required by membership in certain religious groups. In this book, Clare Chambers argues that this predicament poses a fundamental challenge to many existing liberal and multicultural theories that dominate contemporary political philosophy. Chambers argues that a theory of justice cannot ignore the influence of culture and the role it plays in shaping choices. If cultures shape choices, it is problematic to use those choices as the measure of the justice of the culture. Drawing upon feminist critiques of gender inequality and poststructuralist theories of social construction, she argues that we should accept some of the multicultural claims about the importance of culture in shaping our actions and identities, but that we should reach the opposite normative conclusion to that of multiculturalists and many liberals. Rather than using the idea of social construction to justify cultural respect or protection, we should use it to ground a critical stance toward cultural norms. The book presents radical proposals for state action to promote sexual and cultural justice.

Shirley and The Professor
Author: Charlotte Bronte
Publisher: Everyman's Library
ISBN: 0307773620
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 954
Book Description
These two classic novels, together with Brontë's well-known Jane Eyre and Villette, comprise a magnificent oeuvre, each one a singular achievement of characterization, human understanding, and narrative elegance and drama. Shirley is the story of a complicated friendship between two very different women: shy and socially constrained Caroline, the poor niece of a tyrannical clergyman; and the independent heiress Shirley, who has both the resources and the spirit to defy convention. The romantic entanglements of the two women with a local mill owner and his penniless brother pit the claims of passion against the boundaries of class and society. The Professor—the first novel Brontë completed, the last to be published—is both a disturbing love story and the coming-of-age tale of a self-made man. At its center is William Crimsworth, who has come to Brussels to work as an instructor in a school for girls. When he becomes entangled with Zoräide Reuter, a charismatic and brilliantly intellectual woman, the fervor of her feelings threatens both her own engagement and William's chance of finding true love.
