La presente obra es un conjunto de recomendaciones a diferentes niveles de la sociedad, como educación, medio ambiente, salud, sistema financiero entre otros. Son consejos breves pues no pretende ser una guía definitiva sino una serie de ideas que he venido desarrollando a través de los últimos años. En Mérida, en abril de 2011 mientras Hugo Chávez era presidente del país, y quizás motivado por él, siendo capaz de observar desde afuera algunos de sus aciertos y desaciertos y deseando darle algunas recomendaciones, no sólo a él sino a quien fuera el presidente, comencé a escribir. En septiembre del mismo año tuve la suerte de vivir en Toulouse, Francia, para cursar estudios de maestría de Derecho Económico Internacional en la Université du Capitole, Toulouse 1, donde decidí llevar un diario anotando las ideas que me vinieran a la mente sobre lo que significaba ser un país desarrollado; a finales de abril me fui a vivir en Berlín, donde realicé las pasantías necesarias para obtener el diploma de Magister, las cuales culminé a principios de agosto del mismo año. Dichas pasantías fueron en el área de comercio y política internacional de la embajada de Venezuela en Alemania, lo cual me permitió investigar y leer más sobre la situación política y económica tanto de Venezuela como de Alemania y compararlas. Durante todo ese año más rondaba en mi la idea que asalta a la mayoría de venezolanos en países desarrollados, ¿si aquí pueden porque no en Venezuela con tanto petróleo y tantos recursos?

This book explores the concept of 'cognitive injustice': the failure to recognise the different ways of knowing by which people across the globe run their lives and provide meaning to their existence. Boaventura de Sousa Santos shows why global social justice is not possible without global cognitive justice. Santos argues that Western domination has profoundly marginalised knowledge and wisdom that had been in existence in the global South.
