Book Description
Yüan Hung-tao (1568-1610) was the greatest poet of Ming-Dynasty China. His poetry and essays brilliantly exhibit an originality and vitality that were lacking in the writing of his contemporaries. In an age that looked to the masters of the Han and T'ang dynasties for inspiration, Yüan believed that "as the ways of society undergo change, literature must follow suit. So it is natural that the present need not imitate the past". Presented for the first time in English translation, the writings of Yüan and his two brothers reveal these men to have been individualists who made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of poetry in their country. Unlike most other Ming poets, they were not afraid to look critically at the world around them, thus presenting a penetrating picture of Ming society as well as producing both poetry and prose of surpassing beauty and freshness.

Pilgrim at Tinker Creek
Author: Annie Dillard
Publisher: Harper Collins
ISBN: 0061847801
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 304
Book Description
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize “The book is a form of meditation, written with headlong urgency, about seeing. . . . There is an ambition about [Dillard's] book that I like. . . . It is the ambition to feel.” — Eudora Welty, New York Times Book Review Pilgrim at Tinker Creek is the story of a dramatic year in Virginia's Roanoke Valley, where Annie Dillard set out to chronicle incidents of "beauty tangled in a rapture with violence." Dillard's personal narrative highlights one year's exploration on foot in the Virginia region through which Tinker Creek runs. In the summer, she stalks muskrats in the creek and contemplates wave mechanics; in the fall, she watches a monarch butterfly migration and dreams of Arctic caribou. She tries to con a coot; she collects pond water and examines it under a microscope. She unties a snake skin, witnesses a flood, and plays King of the Meadow with a field of grasshoppers. The result is an exhilarating tale of nature and its seasons.

ISBN: 1496417747
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 448
Book Description
What does walking with Jesus look like in this life? The Pilgrim’s Progress is one of the greatest Christian classics of all time, answering that question and illustrating the deepest struggles Christians face as they walk with God in this life. Since its publication in 1678, it has been the most widely read Christian book other than the Bible. From the dark confines of a prison cell, John Bunyan wrote a book that transformed not only his experience but that of millions after him. C. S. Lewis described it as “a book that has astonished the whole world.” Today, the power of the original book is often lost on twenty-first century readers. This edition provides a fresh and faithful rendering of this enduring Christian classic in today’s English. Experience a deepening of your faith as you journey along the pilgrim’s path!
