Six links of the usual chain decomposing acidulated water in the Voltameter. Eight links will decompose pure water in the same instrument. A thirty link chain will produce sparks if applied to the temples, and two of them will produce perceptible shocks if the current be interrupted. The chain forms in fact a voltaic-battery every link of it representing an element on the voltaic principle, and Will therefore produce all the phenomena of a strong voltaic pile.
