Author: Christopher Manning
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 9780262133609
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 722
Book Description
Statistical approaches to processing natural language text have become dominant in recent years. This foundational text is the first comprehensive introduction to statistical natural language processing (NLP) to appear. The book contains all the theory and algorithms needed for building NLP tools. It provides broad but rigorous coverage of mathematical and linguistic foundations, as well as detailed discussion of statistical methods, allowing students and researchers to construct their own implementations. The book covers collocation finding, word sense disambiguation, probabilistic parsing, information retrieval, and other applications.

Information Theory
Author: Antoine Chambert-Loir
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031215613
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 221
Book Description
This book provides an introduction to information theory, focussing on Shannon’s three foundational theorems of 1948–1949. Shannon’s first two theorems, based on the notion of entropy in probability theory, specify the extent to which a message can be compressed for fast transmission and how to erase errors associated with poor transmission. The third theorem, using Fourier theory, ensures that a signal can be reconstructed from a sufficiently fine sampling of it. These three theorems constitute the roadmap of the book. The first chapter studies the entropy of a discrete random variable and related notions. The second chapter, on compression and error correcting, introduces the concept of coding, proves the existence of optimal codes and good codes (Shannon's first theorem), and shows how information can be transmitted in the presence of noise (Shannon's second theorem). The third chapter proves the sampling theorem (Shannon's third theorem) and looks at its connections with other results, such as the Poisson summation formula. Finally, there is a discussion of the uncertainty principle in information theory. Featuring a good supply of exercises (with solutions), and an introductory chapter covering the prerequisites, this text stems out lectures given to mathematics/computer science students at the beginning graduate level.

Active Network Analysis
Author: Wai-Kai Chen
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9789971509132
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 694
Book Description
Active Network Analysis gives a comprehensive treatment of the fundamentals of the theory of active networks and its applications to feedback amplifiers. The guiding light throughout has been to extract the essence of the theory and to discuss those topics that are of fundamental importance and that will transcend the advent of new devices and design tools. The book provides under one cover a unified, comprehensive, and up-to-date coverage of these recent developments and their practical engineering applications. In selecting the level of presentation, considerable attention has been given to the fact that many readers may be encountering some of these topics for the first time. Thus basic introductory material has been included. The work is illustrated by a large number of carefully chosen and well-prepared examples.

Regularity and Complexity in Dynamical Systems
Author: Albert C. J. Luo
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461415233
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 500
Book Description
Regularity and Complexity in Dynamical Systems describes periodic and chaotic behaviors in dynamical systems, including continuous, discrete, impulsive, discontinuous, and switching systems. In traditional analysis, the periodic and chaotic behaviors in continuous, nonlinear dynamical systems were extensively discussed even if unsolved. In recent years, there has been an increasing amount of interest in periodic and chaotic behaviors in discontinuous dynamical systems because such dynamical systems are prevalent in engineering. Usually, the smoothening of discontinuous dynamical system is adopted in order to use the theory of continuous dynamical systems. However, such technique cannot provide suitable results in such discontinuous systems. In this book, an alternative way is presented to discuss the periodic and chaotic behaviors in discontinuous dynamical systems.
