Book Description
I was born in 1977, and had led a normal childhood up until May of 1982. My being involved in a bicycle accident that had left me paralyzed on the right side of my body. I too had attained a Traumatic Brain Injury in which I had lost 1/3 of my brain. I had lost the ability to walk and talk, and in truth all other things. It took years of physical therapy, speech therapy and still to this day I go to physical therapy to do strength training. From 1982 to present day I have always walked with a limp, but truthfully haven’t allowed my disability to stop me from living my life. While I attended college at Davis and Elkins, in Elkins, West Virginia I swam quite a bit, and played basketball for the school for 2 years. After college I returned home, and held several jobs around my home town of Herndon Virginia. I am currently employed as a Special Education Assistant very close to where I live with my wife Maureen, and my son Christopher. Determination, patience, and the willingness needed to at least try something new have always streamed through my veins. I hope to encourage other likeminded people to do the same, and often time have shown them what has best worked for me. I think it is everyone’s responsibility to share their gifts, poetry is one of mine that I have done for 26 years.

Feathers
Author: Thor Hanson
Publisher: Basic Books
ISBN: 0465023460
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 354
Book Description
As seen on PBS's American Spring Live, one of America's great nature-writers explores the magic and science of feathers Feathers are an evolutionary marvel: aerodynamic, insulating, beguiling. They date back more than 100 million years. Yet their story has never been fully told. In Feathers, biologist Thor Hanson details a sweeping natural history, as feathers have been used to fly, protect, attract, and adorn through time and place. Applying the research of paleontologists, ornithologists, biologists, engineers, and even art historians, Hanson asks: What are feathers? How did they evolve? What do they mean to us? Engineers call feathers the most efficient insulating material ever discovered, and they are at the root of biology's most enduring debate. They silence the flight of owls and keep penguins dry below the ice. They have decorated queens, jesters, and priests. And they have inked documents from the Constitution to the novels of Jane Austen. Feathers is a captivating and beautiful exploration of this most enchanting object.
