Book Description
Ostriches may not be able to fly, but they loom large in the bird kingdom. They are the world’s tallest and heaviest living birds, and they lay the largest eggs. With their long legs, ostriches are also fleet of foot, running up to 43 miles per hour, and formidable fighters—an ostrich kick can kill. But since the beginning of history, these extraordinary and outlandish birds have also been exploited by humans for their eggs, meat, skin, and feathers. In Ostrich, Edgar Williams provides a singular, comprehensive insight into the natural history, behavior, and habitat of this monumental bird. Williams describes how the demand for ostrich feathers was so great during the Victorian era that vast fortunes were made from ostrich farming, particularly in South Africa and the United States. After fashions changed following World War I, farmers lost their fortunes, but the now domesticated ostrich found a new purpose—today, ostrich farmers produce plumes and leather for luxury markets, as well as meat for grocery stores. In addition to telling its, Williams reveals how the ostrich has been featured in culture, from its representations in cave paintings, medieval manuscripts, and the Bayeux tapestry to its use in advertising and cartoons. Featuring many striking illustrations, Ostrich will interest nature lovers, artists, and fashionistas alike.

Book Description
In a 16-year career spent with Chelsea and Southampton, goal-scoring legend Peter Osgood made 560 appearances, scoring 220 goals and winning two FA Cup-winner's medals. He was part of the victorious Chelsea side that defeated the mighty Real Madrid in the 1971 European Cup-Winners Cup final and is the last player to have scored in every round of the FA Cup, including the final. Ossie tells the story of the career and the extraordinary roller-coaster personal life of the man who spearheaded a team that made as many headlines off the field as on. The truth about the hard-drinking and hard-living antics of these Kings Road dandies - Hudson, Cooke, Baldwin and company - has never before been told. Osgood tells of his strained relationship with manager Dave Sexton, which resulted in his and other stars' departures, triggering a decline in Chelsea FC's fortunes that took some 20 years to reverse. He recounts his experience in the Mexico World Cup of 1970 and is brutally honest about the challenges and problems faced by ex-footballers as they attempt to adjust to life in mainstream society. Peter Osgood was no ordinary footballer and Ossie is no ordinary football autobiography. Like the King of Stamford Bridge himself was, this book is entertaining, outspoken and full of surprises.

Book Description
I was born to a low-socio family only months before World War II, having to endure the blitz and rationing and listening to the continuous propaganda and rhetoric between warring countries and a family’s future that hung in the balance. We were living a continuous hell throughout the bombings. The early demise of two of my siblings and family members conscripted to fight for king and country. My early years can only be described as tough. As I got older and wiser, it enabled me to find many types of odd jobs that added to the family coffers, money that I would pass on to my mother when times were bad. This book talks about the difficulty of trying to forge a career without formal and education eventually getting an early break working for Brian Epstein and the world famous Beatles, which was the stepping-stone to a successful career. This is my father’s story. This is the early years of Dad’s life—from staying at an orphanage to working down at the coal mines at twelve years old, being a boy soldier in World War I on the Somme, torpedoing at sea, transporting American troupes to Europe, being court-martialed, and surviving to father eleven children. He emigrated to Australia from Liverpool, United Kingdom, and started a new life at thirty-five years old and loved to start a new career in a foreign country.
