Las ilustraciones proveen caracteres diagnósticos relevantes que caracterizan a cada especie, y los mapas de distribución ayudan a fortalecer las decisiones al momento de hacer una identificación. Además, las fotografías ilustran la belleza e identidad de algunas de las especies. Este volumen resume el trabajo intenso de exploración y estudios taxonómicos hechos sobre nuestros bosques en los últimos 33 años, en los cuales los árboles han sido estudiados con énfasis. The volume IV is a continuation of the series Trees of Costa Rica, started 42 years ago to describe the tree flora of a rich biodiversity country. This field guide contains 238 simple leaves species of Costa Rican trees, comprise in 18 plants families, Fabaceae-Malpighiaceae. Only 39 of them are endemic, meaning this volume include species with a wide distribution range, and for that, it will have a great utility within Central America region. The book offers information of tree groups (families) that are well known by its economic importance, high diversity, taxonomically complex and for been dominant in our forests. The information by species it been standardized to reach the maximum parallelism between them, to facilitate the comparative identification. The drawings show relevant diagnostic features that characterized each species and the distribution maps help to take decisions at the moment of making any identification. The pictures illustrate the beauty and identity of some of the species included. This volume summarized the intensive work of exploration and taxonomic studies done in our forests in the last 33 years, in which, the trees are been studied with emphasis.
